The 2020 JUNO Awards will Livestream Their 2020 Ceremony Tonight!

The 2020 JUNO Awards (the Canadian equivalent of the Grammy Awards) live ceremony was postponed this spring due to the coronavirus. Tonight the awards show will announce all of their winners, including the award for Metal/Hard Music Album Of The Year. The nominees are Lindsay Schoolcraft (ex Cradle of Filth) for Martyr (Cyber Proxy), Kobra And The Lotus – Evolution (Napalm/The Orchard), Single Mothers Dine Alone – Through A Wall (The Orchard), and Striker – Play To Win (Record Breaking Records/Independent). The JUNO Awards are set to be hosted by Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Alessia Cara will host the show, which will be broadcast live on CBC. Artists who released albums between September 1, 2018 and November 8, 2019 were eligible for nominations.Continue reading →


Lindsay Schoolcraft is Nominated for the 2020 JUNO Awards, New Album “Martyr” Out Now!

Cradle of Filth keyboardist and vocalist Lindsay Schoolcraft has been nominated for the 2020 JUNO Awards (the Canadian equivalent of the Grammy Awards) for her debut album Martyr! Martyr released on October 7th via her label, Cyber Proxy. Martyr is nominated for the Metal/Hard Music Album Of The Year along with other contenders such as Kobra And The Lotus – Evolution (Napalm/The Orchard), Single Mothers Dine Alone – Through A Wall (The Orchard), and Striker – Play To Win (Record Breaking Records/Independent). Ghost Cult had the pleasure of spending our Halloween 2019 at HQ chatting with the legend himself, Dani Filth of Cradle of Filth by phone. Amidst a whirlwind few years of touring the world, writing, and recording a new album, Dani has brought forth the amazing complete Remix and Remaster of their 1998 landmark album Cruelty and The Beast. The resulting release – Cruelty and the Beast – Remistressed Edition, out now via Music For Nations (read the Ghost Cult full review here), is one of the finest remasters you will ever hear, totally going back to the source tapes and present the album as it was intended. Dani was happy to discuss the arduous process that took years, the reasons (mostly legal) the collection didn’t release as planned in 1998, the work he did with Scott Atkins at Grindstone Studio, his thoughts on Cruelty upon its release compared with now, the infamous story of their 1998 arrest at The Vatican, and his plans for the next Cradle album, coming soon! It used to be easy, doing the devil’s good work. A pentagram here or there, maybe an inverted cross on the forehead, and audiences would cower at your brimstone-summoning bravura. But the competition for our evil-seeking dollar and download has grown to unspeakable proportions. Just ask Sam Astaroth, vocalist for Toronto-based death metal gurus Astaroth Incarnate about the demands of wickedness in 2019. A Mephisto-summoning moniker doesn’t go far enough, even housed in a thorny, nigh-unreadable font. Add a few bullet-belted warlocks crawling from the backwoods with pointy guitars, not to mention Sam’s own demon warpaint.
