Brian James of The Damned and Lords of The New Church Has Died


Highly influential Punk and post-Punk guitarist Brian James, who co-founded The Damned and Lords of the New Church and many others has died. He was 70 years old. He died peacefully on Thursday, March 6, with his wife Minna, son Charlie and daughter-in-law Alicia by his side. In addition to being the author of the first-ever U.K. punk single “New Rose”, Brian was the main author of “Damned Dmned Damned”, which was released in February 1977. After the second Damned album. Brian created the short-lived Tanz Der Youth, before forming The Lords Of The New Church with his friend and fellow rocker Stiv Bators. Working in bands and producing albums over six decades, he left a mark on punk songwriting that would be emulated and followed forever. RIP.

The Hellfest Open Air festival 2025 has booked a huge lineup. Taking place from June 19th to 22nd in Clisson, France, the fest features headlining performances from Korn, Muse, Scorpions, and Linkin Park, as well as, Knocked Loose, Judas Priest, Electric Callboy,Turnstile, Exodus, Dethklok, Refused, Jerry Cantrell, Jinjer, Turnstile, Unto Others, The Warning, VOLA, Alcest, Abbath (Doom occulta set), SUNN O))), HEALTH, Russian Circles, Chat Pile, Savatage, Dream Theater and more out of a total of 184 bands. This Memorial Day Weekend in 2025, Punk Rock Bowling & Music Festival will celebrate 25 years of unapologetic chaos, community, and pure DIY spirit. What began as a punk rock family reunion has become  an annual pilgrimage, built not by corporations but by the grit and passion of the punk rockers who make it all possible. After a quarter-century of breaking the rules, we’re excited to reveal the lineup that embodies everything this festival stands for. Social Distortion is making their PRB debut, bringing that raw, legendary sound filled with Mike Ness’s stories of love, loss, and resilience. Then there’s Peter Hook & The Light, performing the best of Joy Division. From the haunting strains of “Love Will Tear Us Apart” to “Ceremony”, their iconic catalog will pull you into a world of shadows and light. The celebration keeps rolling with Cock Sparrer, the legendary East End London street-punk that’s been tearing it up since 1972. With a core group of members who’ve stuck together from day one, these longtime allies are taking their final festival bow in a bittersweet farewell. We might be entering a golden age of music festivals in the USA. Sure, everywhere you turn fans struggle to afford tickets, and some tours are tanking. Even a few festivals have had disastrous results. At the same time, the destination festival is beginning to thrive here, as we are trying to copy the model from Europe that has reigned for nearly four decades. Dead Kennedys Added To Final 2019 Muddy Roots Music Festival Lineup


Political Punk legends Dead Kennedys have been added as a last-minute addition to Muddy Roots Music Festival. The group, featuring members Klaus Fluoride, East Bay Ray, Ron “Skip” Greer, and D.H. Peligro, will hit the Muddy Roots Truck Stage in Cookeville, Tennessee on Saturday, August 31st. Dead Kennedys join a wide-ranging lineup from punk, metal, roots music, and even some hip-hop fans squeal in unified delight. This year’s event, which will take place from August 30th to September 1st, boasts sets from almost 80 bands, including appearances from MC50, the new incarnation of Wayne Kramer’s MC5, and GZA of Wu-Tang Clan fame who will perform with a live band. The MC50 band includes Kim Thayil (Soundgarden), Brendan Canty (Fugazi), Billy Gould (Faith No More), and Marcus Durant (Zen Guerilla). GZA’s backing band is led by Ramsey Jones, older brother of the late ODB of the Wu-Tang Clan. John Garcia and Nick Oliveri, both formerly of Kyuss will appear with their respective new projects, California punk band Face to Face, Fishbone, alt-country outlaws like Sarah Shook & The Disarmers and Mike and The Moonpies, Possessed By Paul James and The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band and many more.
