CONCERT REVIEW: SEVEN)SUNS Live at Joe’s Pub

My first encounter with SEVEN)SUNS was two weeks into 2023 at La Suspendida, the Jazz-Metal-Opera brainchild of Kilter and William Berger, a massive undertaking in which the string quartet played a vital part. (Editor’s Note: read our review here.) Wait – violas and violins in metal? Of course. Connoisseurs of the progressive would expect violin in bands like Ne Obliviscaris, but the less familiar may be surprised to find strings in heavier, speedier bands like Fleshgod Apocalypse. While such symphonic metal may not be for everyone, let’s not pretend the haunted wailing of orchestral instruments has no place in metal.

CONCERT REVIEW: Kilter Performs William Berger’s “La Suspendida” Live at Culture Lab

If someone said let’s see a Jazz Metal Opera. I’d look confused for a second then I would be all in. That’s exactly what happened when I saw La Suspendida, “The Suspended Woman,” in Long Island City New York at The Phaxall Gallery’s Culture Lab for a three-night residency. It’s an innovative Opera that combines the best of Jazz and Metal music. This groundbreaking concert combines three seemingly different genres into a unique and dynamic sound that will be sure to wow audiences. The drama is based on a notorious incident in history where a doctor’s obsession with a young patient of his was so great that he kept her body as his lover after her untimely death.

SEVEN)SUNS has shared a video of the band performing a cover of Cult Leader’s song “Lightless Walk”! The cover will be available for streaming next week, and they also announced their next album, Death Meditations, will be available on August 11th. You can pre-save it on Spotify in the post below. Recast under the string quartet’s hands, the track has an entirely different power and vibe to it than the original. One Year Ago The Dillinger Escape Plan Played Their Final Show

It has been a year since the final notes of The Dillinger Escape Plan’s final live performance of their twenty-year career rang out at a sweaty, bloodstained, tears and beers soaked Terminal Five in New York City. While bands reunite all the time and no one should ever say “never”, this one retirement is pretty final. Ghost Cult staff was in attendance all three nights for the final dates of their illustrious career, it still felt so surreal at the time. As Ghost Cult scribe Hans Lopez penned so eloquently in his review of 2016’s Dissociation (Party Smasher Inc.) Dillinger was one of the most polarizing, but also most important bands of all time. Those final shows were performances for the ages. Thoughtfully planned, immaculately performed, with the highest levels of musicianship, a total disregard for the human condition, and most of all fun. Dillinger proved in the final throws of ecstasy and art that music can be dangerous, fun, and emotional all at once, without selling out or sacrificing anything. Our worlds are still rocked a year later., and no, it’s still not okay that they are gone. Thanks for the bruises on our bodies and scars in our minds, Dillinger Escape Plan.Continue reading
