Ghost Cult caught up with Last In Line frontman Andrew Freeman a few months back to discuss the goings-on with the group, and all the ways the band made up mostly of former Ronnie James Dio’s DIO band work hard to preserve his legacy. The band also makes their own music, which is totally killer, and in their classic Heavy Metal style. We spoke to Andrew about how the group formed, the depth and songwriting of their 2019 album II (Frontiers Records SRL), opening for UFO, his approach to singing, and the band’s plans for their third album, already underway. EVENT RECAP: Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund Commemorates 10th Anniversary with Awards Gala and Concert
The Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund, founded in memory of the late rock music legend, commemorated the 10th anniversary of his passing and the formation of the charity with its 10th Anniversary Memorial Awards Gala held on February 20, 2020 at the Avalon Hollywood. Hosted Eddie Trunk (That Metal Show, SiriusXM Trunk Nation), the organization recognized honorees in eight categories—each named after songs written by Ronnie James Dio–who have played a role in either Dio’s legacy or that of the charity. Live entertainment was provided by Ronnie James Dio’s live band Dio, featuring vocalists Tim “Ripper” Owens and Oni Logan, and band members Simon Wright, Craig Goldy, Scott Warren and Bjorn Englen, and highlighted by the vocals and visuals of Ronnie James Dio. Los Angeles comedian Brian Posehn, in addition, his comedic duties, performed a song from his upcoming GRANDPA METAL album accompanied by Scott Ian (Anthrax) and Joey Vera (Armored Saint, Fates Warning), while local rockers Sadie & the Tribe opened the festivities with their set. New Dio Singles Streaming from BMG Remasters Series Due This Spring
The legacy of Ronnie James Dio continues to be honored and cherished in 2020. To commemorate the tenth anniversary of his passing and his late-era albums with Dio vocalist, BMG Records will reissue Dio’s long out-of-print 1996-2004 studio albums – 1996’s Angry Machines, 2000’s Magica, 2002’s Killing the Dragon and 2004’s Master of the Moon, releasing on March 20th, 2020. Dio Hologram Tour Confirmed For 2019, 100 Dates To Be Announced
According to a published report via Billboard, Eyellusion, the company responsible for the Ronnie James Dio hologram tour plans, has signed with the Agency for the Performing Arts (APA), represented by agency partner Steve Martin. The Dio hologram will return to the road in April is set to hit over 100 cities in 2019. The legendary heavy metal singer died in 2010 at the age of 67 from stomach cancer. His hologram debuted at Wacken Open Air festival in August 2016 in front of more than 75,000 fans.Continue reading

We were on hand last week to see metal history as Metal Allegiance, themselves a supergroup of the greatest metal musicians (Mike Portnoy, Alex Skolnick, David Ellefson, Mark Menghi) played New York City’s Gramercy Theatre. The celebrate the release of their new album Metal Allegiance II: Power Drunk Majesty on Nuclear Blast Records, they were joined by a who’s who of legends and current stars of heavy music including Mark Osegueda of Death Angel, Bobby Blitz of Overkill, Alissa White-Gluz of Arch Enemy, John Bush of Armored Saint, Andres Kisser of Sepultura, Trevor Strnad of The Black Dahlia Murder, Mark Tornillo of TT Quick, In addition to playing cuts off their brand new album Metal Allegiance II: Power Drunk Majesty (Nuclear Blast), they played a ton of sick covers.
