Halloween might have come and gone for another year but for everyone at KK’s Steel Mill tonight for Wednesday 13, Spooky Season is still in full swing. Gothic outfits, jet black hair (for those who still have any) and corpse make-up is the order of the evening and the coffins that sit on either side of the stage for the opening act South of Salem add the finishing touch before the band even make their entrance.Continue reading

Slipknot’s Major Label Debut Album Turns 25
Slipknot’s iconic major label debut, their second album overall, the self-titled Slipknot album was released on June 29th, 1999, twenty-five years ago. While the band’s building blocks can be heard on 1996’s Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. (-ismist Records), the band we know today was built here on this album. Produced by Ross Robinson, Slipknot is the first album from the band to feature Corey Taylor. The band exploded on the scene in 1999 in a national and then international sense, immediately earning an army of fans, starting out on a relentless 2-year tour that saw them begin Ozzfest 1999 on the side stage, eventually graduating to the main stage. The band, which has already played its first few gigs of 2024, will celebrate 25 years of this album on a world tour, as well as Knotfest Iowa and other events, and merch drops for 2024 and 2025. Enjoy some Slipknot content from Ghost Cult and jam out to the tunes now. Continue reading
CLASSIC ALBUMS REVISITED: Slipknot – “Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)” Turns 20
The album that would become Slipknot’s third album, and the crucial masterpiece in their history, almost didn’t happen at all. Between the hard-fought success of Iowa (Roadrunner Records), the well-documented interpersonal relationship issues between the nine band members, rising fame and pressure, side bands like Stone Sour, To My Surprise, and Murderdolls, and “off the field issues,” you couldn’t blame this band if they imploded totally around this time. However, overcoming themselves and all of these obstacles; Slipknot’s Vol. 3 (The Subliminal Versus) (a great pun on Salman Rushdie’s controversial book, The Satanic Verses, is one of their best albums, along with their debut might be their finest hour. It is certainly their biggest hit album on a lot of levels. It yielded six singles and as we like to say on the Glacially Musical podcast (where we reviewed this album), an album has a bunch of singles if it’s selling and the band is doing well on tour. Roadrunner United Release Celebrating The Iconic Label to See a Rerelease in 2023
Roadrunner United was a project organized by iconic hard rock record label Roadrunner Records to celebrate its 25th anniversary, culminating in the U.S. Billboard Top 200, UK Albums, and Australian ARIA Albums-charting original The All Star Sessions. Four “team captains” (Slipknot’s Joey Jordison (RIP), Machine Head’s Robb Flynn, Fear Factory’s Dino Cazares, and Trivium’s Matthew K. Heafy) were chosen to lead 57 artists from 45 past and present Roadrunner bands. On December 15, 2005, a concert celebrating the project, album, and anniversary took place at the Nokia Theater in New York City. That star-studded event featured multiple musicians, both past and present, from Roadrunner bands — as well as musicians that did not originally perform on the All-Star Sessions album. Now that album is getting a release in 2023 on multiple formats. Watch the live performance video of “The End (Live)” featuring Fear Factory’s Dino Cazares, and Trivium’s Matthew K.
