Whitesnake Co-founder and Guitarist Bernie Mardsen Has Died

Original Whitesnake Guitarist Bernie Mardsen has died. He was 72 years old. No cause of death has been revealed. The news was broken by Mardsen’s label Conquest Music and their PR team. You can read that notice below. A great Hard Rock and Heavy Guitarist and songwriter,  Mardsen is best known for his work in Whitesnake, sharing composing credits on two of their biggest hits “Here I Go Again” and “Fool For Your Loving!” In addition, he released many solo albums, and had other bands and collabs such as UFO, Ringo Starr, ZZ TOP, MGM, and The Company of Snakes, and others. His former bandmate and friend David Coverdale of Whitesnake commented: “I’ve just woken up to the awful news that my old friend and former Snake Bernie Marsden has passed,” he wrote. “My sincere thoughts and prayers to his beloved family, friends and fans. A genuinely funny, gifted man, whom I was honored to know and share a stage with.”

RIP.

ALBUM REVIEW: Agent Steel – No Other Godz Before Me

As fitting for such an enigmatic entity, the sixth album from Speed Metal legends Agent Steel has been released under some rather bizarre circumstances. In addition to being the first album to feature their original vocalist John Cyriis since 1987’s Unstoppable Force, he also ends up being the only original member left in the band after the fallout of their last reunion. Subsequent live festival debacles and his eccentric responses to preemptive concerns regarding this album’s quality certainly haven’t helped matters, leaving fans to wonder whether it will be a return to form or an insane conundrum.

Former UFO Guitarist Paul Chapman Has Died, Age 66

Welsh rock legend and guitarist Paul Chapman, perhaps best known for his work in UFO and Waysted, has died at the age of 66. His passing was confirmed by his son, who wrote on Paul’s Facebook page: “It is with a heavy heart writing this, today is my dads 66th birthday. He passed away earlier this afternoon. He was a brilliant, energetic, loving and most carefree person and the First man I ever loved. Everyone he came in contact with loved him. no ADORED him. will keep everyone posted on his celebration of life. I appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers as his family grieves and processes everything at this time. I love you Dad. So much.” In Paul’s early career, his first notable band was the Welsh outfit UNIVERSE. Chapman then joined SKID ROW (not to be confused with the 1980s band from New Jersey) in December 1971 replacing Gary Moore as a guitarist. His tenure was fairly short and only lasted until July 1972. His next band was KIMLA TAZ, with whom he was guitarist from December 1972 to May 1974. In recent years, Chapman had been teaching music at his studio in Melbourne, Florida. We send our condolences out to Paul’s family, friends and many fans at this time. Continue reading

REVIEW: The MegaCruise 2019

Like most metalheads, I’ve been to a lot of metal shows over the years. Over the hundreds of metal shows I’ve attended, never once did I think to myself “You know what would make this even better? Being trapped on a boat in the middle of the fucking ocean.” And yet, having taken some time to reflect on my experiences aboard the inaugural MegaCruise by Megadeth, I revel in the memories of experiencing choppy water while thrashing through the Pacific, convinced I’m going to die on a boat watching Dragonforce and being oddly ok with it.
