What is it about our aching nostalgia for the eighties that finds us being drawn back to this magical decade? Perhaps video did not actually kill the radio star until the end of this era?

Director Ti West just released his new horror movie X, which stars rapper Kid Cudi, Mia Goth, Jenny Ortega and Brittany Snow. X was released nationwide on March 18th, while the score was just released on the 25. The score of the movie was composed by Tyler Bates and Chelsea Wolfe. It’s also Wolfes first foray into film scoring. X takes place in 1979, where a group of young filmmakers set out to make an adult film in rural Texas, but when their reclusive, elderly hosts catch them in the act, the cast finds themselves fighting for their lives. Chelsea Wolfe also contributed a proper song to the soundtrack with a cover of Arthur Field’s 1918 track “Oui Oui Marie.” Watch the video for it below.
Chelsea Wolfe will be hitting the road next month with Converge for their Bloodmoon I album project tour.

Other rock legends added to the fun of this LP, including Duff McKagan (GUNS N’ ROSES) on select bass tracks, Greg Puciato (THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN) handling all of the background vocals and Joe Barresi (TOOL, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE) overseeing the mixing of “Brighten”. Marvel’s The Punisher Season 2 dropped yesterday and hopefully, it won’t be its last since it’s easily one of the best of the Marvel Netflix series there is. Certainly Punisher the most hardcore violent and true to the comic series (think Garth Ennis’ run for true fans). Music has always played a big role in these Netflix shows with Tyler Bates (Marilyn Manson, movie scores) composing the theme to Punisher, metal being used for Punisher trailers, Manson’s own ‘Fated, Faithful, Faithful’ in a season one episode, the use of Hip Hop, RnB, Jazz and Blues in both seasons of Luke Cage, and old-school Rap in Iron Fist. Outlaw Country finally got it’s due in the Season two premiere of Punisher- Roadhouse Blues, Shooter Jennings and his band play the bar band in the main locale for the episode. They performed the tracks ‘The Outsider’, his hit song ‘Outlaw You’, ‘Wild and Lonesome’, ‘The Other Life’, and ‘The Real Me’. For the uninitiated, Shooter is a great artist, a total badass, and the son of country royalty Waylon Jennings and Jessi Coulter. Continue reading
Nearly a quarter-century into his career, Marilyn Manson continues to explore the grimy underside of humanity that makes other artists shy away to safety, and enthralls his fans. This is not an easy task and while his missteps have been very public, it would take a very jaded listener to find fault with the recorded consistency he has put down, especially of late. I’m not sure why 2015s The Pale Emperor (Hell, etc) took so many off guard; as if the man wasn’t capable of holding our attention any longer. That album exuded a mature brilliance; an almost “an elder statesman of rock” type of vibe. A modern classic rock album, the type we used to get often, but are now scarce since real rock gods are dead or in hiding. Manson is not ashamed to swing his sticky rock star dick around, but it’s his writing, lyrics and vocal delivery that really sent that album over the top. In some ways he has actually done one better on the follow-up, Heaven Upside Down (Loma Vista/Caroline International).Continue reading
