ALBUM REVIEW: Static-X – Project Regeneration Vol.1

The road to hell is paved with blood.”

Like many fans, Wayne Static’s tragic passing in 2014 hit me like a ton of bricks. I saw the band rise from the underground to spread their “Evil Disco” sound around the globe, touring with their heroes and influences, and even surpassing a few of the,. Wayne had much more music to give the world but little did we know. As it turns out, a lot more than we expected. Upon repeat listens to the new Static-X album listening to Project Regeneration Vol.1 (Ostego Entertainment Group), the band sounds fresh and raging as ever, and Wayne’s voice is not sad, but a triumphant middle finger from the great ether.Continue reading

Fear Factory Released The Genre Smashing Album “Demanufacture” 25 Years Ago!

Many times in music journalism, we writers are given to hyperbole, often because it is the low hanging fruit of the field to gush about the classics with a torrent of compliments. You often read words like genre-defying, and frankly, a lot of the time they don’t land as they are meant to. However, in the case of the entire career of Fear Factory and certainty of the album Demanufacture (Roadrunner Records), the words can never do proper justice to the music. Simply stated, Deamnfacture is one of the most important, unique, and unapologetically brutal albums in heavy metal history. Continue reading

Terrible news as Static-X, on the verge of releasing their comeback album, have filed a police report with the LAPD, siting that their warehouse space (which is also shared with the band Dope) was recently robbed of nearly 200K worth of touring equipment during the Coronavirus lockdown. The two bands were advised to take the story public, in order to help raise awareness with other small business owners and bands alike. The band has publicized a list of stolen equipment, complete with many of the serial numbers. The list includes: Multiple LED video panels, 2 drum kits, 40+ cymbals, various high-end audio/video gear, microphones, racks, branded backdrops, etc. The two bands have also set up a tip center where you can share any info that may help in the investigation.Continue reading

Bethesda Games finally released Doom Eternal yesterday, complete with its “Death Metal Choir” recorded last year, by composer Mick Gordon! Of course, the soundtrack album is not yet available to purchase separately, but apparently it will be soon. Apparently, the Collectors Edition of the game will be released at some point with the additional full soundtrack and the soundtrack to Doom 2016. We have followed this news for some time, in which Gordon assembled a tremendous amount of heavy and underground vocal talent including bands such as Static- X, Aborted, Frontierer, Immortal Bird, Vault Dweller, Calvary, Wildspeaker, Black Crown Initiate, Sectioned, Tengger Calvary (RIP Nature G), The World I Knew, The Anchor, and more. You can listen to a sneak peek of this audio until someone’s lawyer makes them take it down.Continue reading

CONCERT REVIEW: Poppy – VOWWS: Live At Brooklyn Steel

While sugary-sweet pop vocals coupled with head-crushing heavy metal doesn’t seem like a recipe for success, Poppy has been changing the game. We were there when she took the stage at Brooklyn Steel last month and saw firsthand what everyone has been buzzing about.Continue reading
