Massive Wagons‘ fifth album House of Noise (Earache Records) delivers unabashedly old fashioned Rock n Roll with lashings of riffs, hooks, and humour that will put a smile on anyone’s face. August 2018 saw the lives and times of UK bluesy rockers Massive Wagons change, perhaps irreversibly, as hot on the heels of a headline performance at SOS Festival that impressed punters and Ghost Cult alike, their fourth album Full Nelson not only hit the racks, but mounted a serious, and unexpected for the band, assault on the UK album charts, achieving a truly impressive week one position of #16.

I’ve been a fan of Massive Wagons for some time, in the north-west of England you’d literally have to be living under a rock to not have heard their name and their reputation for live shows. Playing old school rock with an infectious energy that keeps it fresh an up to date, they’ve always been somewhat convention-defying. Their Earache debut Full Nelson has been anticipated in many quarters with no shortage of anticipation. There’s a real buzz surrounding them at the minute, from fighting with local councils over pub murals, to hoping to be the first band from Lancaster to make it into the top 40 in the UK, make no bones about it this album has the potential to do just that. It’s an indisputable fact that it’s never too early for metal, a fact more than embodied by Avarus who have the unenviable task of getting everybody’s head banging on a Sunday noon with some genuinely impressive metalcore. I’m not normally a fan of metalcore so that last sentence still makes me feel slightly confused and somehow vulnerable. Reminiscent of times of Avenged Sevenfold they show some serious promise. A young band they need to work on their stage performance, turning their backs to the audience between songs and a lack of direct stage banter did let them down somewhat, hopefully, that will come with time and confidence as musically they’ve got it. As reported earlier this summer, UK rockers Massive Wagons are gearing up for the launch of their exciting new album Full Nelson on August 10th via Earache Records. Fans in their hometown of Lancaster have launched a petition to keep their album artwork mural on the side of their local pub. The mural was a goodwill gesture and not an advertisement for the album, but the town feels differently. So far the plea for help has nearly 6,900 of the 7,500 signature being sought.
