Animals As Leaders started as a project by virtuoso guitarist Tosin Abasi, after his former label Prosthetic Records asked him to create a solo LP, following the end of his band Reflux. After taking a year out to study and immerse himself in his guitar playing, he put together the group who have now been releasing music for over a decade through to Parrhesia (Sumerian) their fifth album.
Lamb Of God frontman Randy Blythe, Animals As Leaders guitarist Javier Reyes, Sworn Enemy guitarist Lorenzo Antonucci, 33 & West Booking Agency co-founder JJ Cassiere and Mediaskare Records head Baron Bodnar have created a new supergroup called Over It All. Blythe posted to his Instagram news of the band and that they seem to be touring, but it’s unclear to or for what. He also thanked Sumerian Records, hinting that label is behind the band and may have already signed them. We are excited to see what music this group can make and we will post updates when we can. People tend to think and listen along genre lines. They tell themselves “I enjoy band X, so bands like band X will also be up my alley.” Most of the time, that is a sound way to go, and a good stepping off point in this fast food music culture where we consume a streaming track at a time. Then there is a band like Animals As Leaders. Whether you have never been into the band or bands of this ilk, or have been in deep since ‘CAFO’, AAL is a band that takes all comers by surprise and pays off like a strong drink after a particularly rough week at the office.
