One Year Ago The Dillinger Escape Plan Played Their Final Show
It has been a year since the final notes of The Dillinger Escape Plan’s final live performance of their twenty-year career rang out at a sweaty, bloodstained, tears and beers soaked Terminal Five in New York City. While bands reunite all the time and no one should ever say “never”, this one retirement is pretty final. Ghost Cult staff was in attendance all three nights for the final dates of their illustrious career, it still felt so surreal at the time. As Ghost Cult scribe Hans Lopez penned so eloquently in his review of 2016’s Dissociation (Party Smasher Inc.) Dillinger was one of the most polarizing, but also most important bands of all time. Those final shows were performances for the ages. Thoughtfully planned, immaculately performed, with the highest levels of musicianship, a total disregard for the human condition, and most of all fun. Dillinger proved in the final throws of ecstasy and art that music can be dangerous, fun, and emotional all at once, without selling out or sacrificing anything. Our worlds are still rocked a year later., and no, it’s still not okay that they are gone. Thanks for the bruises on our bodies and scars in our minds, Dillinger Escape Plan.Continue reading
The Black Queen – Infinite Games
Supergroup is a term bandied about too much these days, including here at this very website. It’s hard to help it in the streaming music age, which coincidently has also fostered a new openness and freedom for artists to come together as never before. Perhaps we need another terminology to describe these collectives. How about “artistic hive-mind”? That’s one that definitely suits The Black Queen, who is more than a mere musical group, but carry these sensibilities in everything they do from songs and lyrics to album art, videos, t-shirts, and visual performances live. The sum of their recorded output is but one facet of what can be possible when they get together.
Max Cavalera Says Killer Be Killed Is Making Progress On Album Number Two
Metal supergroup Killer Be Killed stormed the music world when they released their 2014 debut. According to a new interview with Max Cavalera, the band has demos of 10 new songs ready as progress towards a new release. Max previously said a new album was potentially possible for 2019. Comprised of Cavalera (Soulfly, Cavalera Conspiracy, Ex-Sepultura), Sanders (Mastodon) Greg Puciato (The Black Queen, The Dillinger Escape Plan), and drummer Ben Koller (Converge, All Pigs Must Die, Mutoid Man), released its self-titled debut via Nuclear Blast Entertainment. They were one of the first signings to that label by former Roadrunner executive Monte Connor. Continue reading
