CONCERT REVIEW: Unearth – Revocation – Entheos – High Command at Saint Vitus Bar

Unearth and Revocation kicked off their co-headlining tour at Saint Vitus on Friday. The fate of the night appeared uncertain as earlier that day severe flooding shut down subway lines and landed parts of the city knee-deep in water. Although the show was technically sold out, Vitus was, dare I say, comfortable. It felt like a more exclusive and intimate experience than the usual ATM vestibule loitering.

ALBUM REVIEW: Entheos – Time Will Take Us All

It seems to be an increasingly common event in today’s turbulent music scene that bands see departures in their ranks; whether this subsequently derails the band completely or becomes a benefit. After driving in what felt like a monsoon to Albany and enjoying the vegan delights of Wizard Burger by the venue, it was a thrill to witness a top-notch deathcore show and check out Empire Underground finally. The venue is literally hidden down what feels like a back entrance tunnel of a complex and we weren’t sure if we were about to be robbed. It adds to the charm because soon you find yourself in a secret bunker for metalheads that feels like it is out of Cloverfield Lane.

ALBUM REVIEW: Machine Head – ØF KINGDØM AND CRØWN

I remember one-time reading Revolver magazine’s review for Through the Ashes of Empires and while it was a very positive piece the writer felt that despite being a great step forward it may have been too little, too late for Machine Head. Hard to believe now, but in those days some perceived Machine Head as being dead in the water following the more mainstream stylings of The Burning Red and the ill-timed Supercharger
