ALBUM REVIEW: The Butthole Surfers – After the Astronaut

The words of Hunter S. Thompson might best describe The Butthole Surfers as “One of God’s own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.” A band countless outsider teenagers dropped acid to in the nineties, that stumbled into the mainstream spotlight with the Electric Larryland album that was devised even before factions took up on the internet to be divided about things. The album was more of an anomaly, so when Capitol Records received the follow-up After the Astronaut, they shelved it, but thankfully, Sunset Blvd Records finally released it.  Continue reading →


ALBUM REVIEW: Skunk Anasie – The Painful Truth

Sometimes bands create an album so creatively stellar that it leaves its mark on who they are as artists, such is the case with Skunk Anasie and their 1999 album Post Orgasmic Chill (Virgin Records) that transcended genres as well as eras of music. But Skin does not care how big they were in the past, she presses forward on their new album The Painful Truth (FLG Records), disregards being defined by anything to reinvent what the band is about. EP REVIEW: Dream State – Untethered

As of February 2022, the UK’s Dream State lingered in limbo after the announcement came that all music fans fear. Vocalist CJ Gilpin and guitarist Rhys Wilcox would be departing from the lineup. Both band members stepped down for personal/mental health reasons, but as for the last remaining founding member, Aled Evans decided to charge forward instead of closing the book for good.
