Since their previously solitary release, Portland, Oregon doom metaller’s Burial Clouds have undergone a significant change into an almost entirely new entity. Once entirely an instrumental outfit, the band have since added vocalist Michael Malarkey to their ranks; and with that have added extra dimensions to their sound as shown on debut full-length Last Days Of A Dying World (Church Road Records).
The Chernobyl disaster rocked the then-Soviet Union in 1986. Ronald Reagan was the president. Gas was just over a dollar a gallon (Editor’s note, gas was $2.14 per gallon nationwide in 1984). Times were much different so many decades ago, which makes it all the more remarkable that epic doom metal pioneers Candlemass – who formed in 1984 – continue to wield the torch of the scene, guiding the masses and collecting newcomers along the way.
The story of Enchantment is one filled with a whole lot of nothing followed by a blistering reminder that the four-piece U.K.-based death/doom act is still alive and kicking.
