Archgoat – Svartidauði – Bölzer: Live At Het Bos
On Saturday October 7th 2017, almost exactly a year after hosting the excellent Mannveira/Wormlust package, Het Bos has another delectable line-up for anyone into the dark and destructive. Opening the night are Eggs of Gomorrah, the Swiss band has a fat and muddy sound, with lower end vocals, and a clear dose of death metal influence and while the performance doesn’t have major mistakes it just fails to capture me as anything inherently special. Visually, while it’s clear the band put their most into the performance, there’s not a clear idea how to present it all. The band is relatively young though, having dropped their début in 2016, so who knows what they will develop into.Continue reading
Vallenfyre – Implore – Wolfbastard: Rebellion Bar, Manchester
Fun and Black metal aren’t a combination of words you’re likely to hear too often, but Oldham’s Wolfbastard evidently doesn’t hold much stock in the more serious nature of the genre. They did a great job of setting the scene for the night with a rare mix of crust infused black metal and a cracking sense of humour. Comprising mainly of members of other local favourites Burial, their clever song titles and banter between songs, certainly got more than a few laughs from the audience, and managed to instil a real sense of fun in the audience from the start of the gig. Sometimes rare gigs come along you just need to attend f you can. Legendary American Doom metal band Saint Vitus playing the tiny, 150 person capacity Little Devil bar, a venue with its own cult status and following, was just something I knew would be special. And having the Norwegian heavy fuzz-groovers Tombstones join them, is just a pure bonus.
