Spotify founder and current CEO Daniel Ek has published an open letter in response to the criticism of the platform, waged by artists such as Neil Young and Joni Mitchell following Young’s request to have him music. The rub came from Young’s dissatisfaction over podcast host Joe Rogan’s show which has spread misinformation about the COVID-19 pandemic and the platform’s apathy towwards its best paid ($100 MM USD) content provider. Ek’s letter does hint at changes to their content policy, it does seem that no content removal is forthcoming. Many other artsits are rumored to be considering pulling their music off the platform, while a wave of fans on social media are bragging about quitting the popular service. It was widely reported at the market close last week that Spotify has hemmoraged losses of up to 25% of its value in 2022 so far, between an estimated 2-4 Billion dollars. Rogan has appologized for the rift to Spotify and says he is a Neil Young fan.

Neil Young Demands Spotify Remove His Music Over Joe Rogan’s COVID-19 Misinformation
Legendary Hall of Fame rocker Neil Young has demanded that all of his music be removed from streaming service Spotify as quickly immediately, according to an open letter the veteran rock musician posted to his website and reported on by Rolling Stone. That message has since been deleted. Young has drawn a line in the sand with Spotify over the misinformation about vaccines being peddled by Joe Rogan, the podcast host who signed a $100 million deal with Spotify in 2020. Young made a similar demand over 10 years ago taking issue with music streaming previously, but it used to be about the low-quality audio that was provided back in the mid-2010s. Joe Rogan gets an estimated 11 million listeners per episode.

ALBUM REVIEW: Spiritbox – Eternal Blue
Let’s take a minute and talk about hype. We all have a vague notion of what it is, but how does one obtain it? Can it be harnessed long term or is it a matter of riding that wave while it’s marginally available? For instance, how did Job For A Cowboy use it to jump from MySpace unto Metal Blade? Beats me. Whatever the case may be, it appears abundantly clear that Spiritbox know how to tap into it and are doing so on Eternal Blue (Rise Records). But can Spiritbox carry this momentum all through an album? Continue reading
