As one cycle ends, another begins. The flamboyant, dancing Cardinal Copia has been anointed Papa Emeritus IV and the plague-ridden doom of the 14th century is gone. ALBUM REVIEW: Hath – All That Was Promised


When’s the last time you listened to an album, and it completely knocked you on your ass? For me it was a few hours ago while sensibly driving around in my Volvo. Not to worry, no Swedish automobiles were harmed while repeatedly listening to Hath’s All That Was Promised (Willowtip). Well, maybe I punched the passenger seat once ‘The Million Violations’ swung into full gear with volleys of blast beats and guitar trickery. What’s a little cosmetic damage?

CONCERT REVIEW: Swallow The Sun – Abigail Williams – Wilderun – Live at The Sanctuary


It was a cold, rainy evening last Sunday in Motor City, but that didn’t damper the spirits of those attending the metal show happening at The Sanctuary. Residing in the humble hamlet of Hamtramck, next to Detroit, this music venue is the pulse of the heavy scene for the whole city. Many gathered in the quaint sized concert hall because the Doom Metal masters, Swallow the Sun were in town. This legendary act of doom ‘n gloom is on the road promoting their new album Moonflowers (Century Media Records). Plus, they brought along Abigail Williams and Wilderun as their supporting acts, making it a night filled with decadent heaviness.

Opeth Parts Ways with Drummer Martin Axenrot, US Tour with Mastodon Starts Tonight


Opeth has announced that longtime drummer Martin Axenrot (Bloodbath, ex Witchery) has parted ways with the band, effective immediately. As Opeth is about to embark on their US tour tonight, November 16th, 2021 with Mastodon and Zeal & Ardor, Sami Karppinen will fill in for the tour. Axerot joined Opeth in 2006, replacing previous drummer Martin Lopez (Soen) and performing on Watershed, Heritage, Pale Communion, Sorceress and 2019’s  In Cauda Venenum. ALBUM REVIEW: Converge – Bloodmoon: I


After the four-year gap since their last studio album, Massachusetts hardcore/metalcore act Converge return with something quite different. A collaborative effort, Bloodmoon: I (Epitaph Records) sees the band joining forces with Chelsea Wolfe, Ben Chisholm plus Cave In singer/guitarist Stephen Brodsky, the seven individuals all contributing to something a little out of their usual comfort zones.
