Locals Glorious Depravity featuring members of Woe, Mutilation Rites and Pyhrron started the night off, the last time we checked in with them was shortly before shit hit the fan with the pandemic and this was their first show back since and damn they have tightened up and worked out the kinks. Looking forward to what they have in store for us in the future.

CONCERT REVIEW: High on Fire – Spirit Adrift – Dysrhythmia: Live at Le Poisson Rouge
In certain circles, some might say “so goes Matt Pike, so goes the entire metal scene.” As the co-founder of two of the most iconic bands of the last two generations of die-hard metal fans, Pike’s mighty riffs laid down with SLEEP and later with High on Fire has led him from the underground to mainstream love from critics and fans alike. With his debut book about to drop, and a solo album tentatively due in 2022, Pike is on a roll and a High on Fire show, playing their first concerts in a few years now, is a necessary ritual for fans.

Coven – Sanhedrin: Live At Le Poisson Rouge
Coven, occult, unholy and gleefully wicked. They have carved an unholy history across fifty years of rock and roll blasphemy. When they descended on Le Poisson Rouge for their first New York City show in decades the scenes devout congregated in worship. After a stunning opening set from Brooklyn hometown heroes, Sanhedrin the hour of doom was nigh. As the band strode out with a swaggering version of ‘Black Sabbath’ (The Coven song predates Iommi and co’s version by a year) and caroming through renditions of ‘Wicked Woman’ and the ‘White Witch of Rosehall’, this is a group at the height of their powers. Exciting, over the top and gloriously satanic, Coven is on top of the world and ready to destroy minds and reap souls. Devout fans take note, Prophecy Productions will be releasing a 50-year anniversary box set to celebrate the band in 2019! Continue reading
Descendants Of Crom Festival 2018, Various Venues, Pittsburgh PA
Sojourning to the Steel City, where the steel these days is mostly from the music, Descendants of Crom Festival enjoyed a second annual event recently and Ghost Cult was there. From the pre-fest gala and parking lot party (think of a modern “Heavy Metal Parking Lot” with stoner rock and doom fans), three nights of badassery at both Howlers and the Cattivo club, it was a rager. Shout out to the sponsors Blackseed Records and Riff Relevant among others. Highlights of the weekend included sets from Heavy Temple, Howling Giant, Doomstress, Come to Grief, Thunderbird Divine, Toke, Geezer, Duel, but really you can’t really go wrong with a deep lineup like this. We can’t wait for next year and round three! In the meantime, check out these photos by Dante Torrieri of Useless Rebel Imaging for Ghost Cult. Continue reading
