Colt 48 – Negatives

Alternative Metal is considered by some in the Metal community to be the black sheep of the genre: bands like Breaking Benjamin, Disturbed, Sevendust and many others have seen mainstream success because of the accessible sound and simplistic yet catchy song structures which come with the genre. During the 00s, Alternative Metal exploded and has acted as the gateway for many listeners to discover the vast sonic ground which is under the banner of Metal. The question is: does Colt 48’s new release Negatives (independent release) have any merit now that those heydays are over?Continue reading

Northward – Northward

Although Nightwish vocalist Floor Jansen (then still with her previous band, After Forever), and Pagan’s Mind guitarist Jorn Viggo Lofstad had never actually met before, when they played a handful of cover versions during an ‘All-Star Jam’ at Progpower USA in 2007, the two hit it off immediately. Discovering they both shared a fondness for basic, stripped down heavy rock music, the pair sat down the following year and wrote an album’s worth of music quite different to what they were both producing at the time.Continue reading

Slash, ft. Myles Kennedy And The Conspirators – Living The Dream

As one of the most recognisable figures in music history (let alone just rock) and a figurehead and member of a couple of massive bands that you may have heard about, guitarist Slash hardly needs any introduction by now. Similarly, whilst not on the same level of notoriety outside of rock circles, Myles Kennedy and his main band Alter Bridge are on a commercial climb and are a certified arena-level band by now, whilst he has also found time to write and tour a solo album this year.Continue reading

Alter Bridge – Live At The Royal Albert Hall feat. The Parallax Orchestra

The first thing that strikes you during the sumptuous, slow-build to opening track ‘Slip To The Void’ is how perfect the marriage of Alter Bridge and The Parallax Orchestra is; Myles Kennedy’s vulnerable, melancholic introduction is subtly embellished by the swells of strings before the dramatic introduction of the guitars and the rest of the band is powerfully bolstered for the heavy verse, with perfect accentuation following on the middle eight.Continue reading

Tremonti – A Dying Machine

In the shadow of such arena stomping colossi as Creed and Alter Bridge, Mark Tremonti’s solo venture has, in your scribe’s opinion up until now, felt lacking. Never being outright bad and often capable of huge songs (as you can expect from the driving force behind the two former), the previous Tremonti albums have not hit levels of adventurous writing that Alter Bridge, in particular, have been capable of, and at worst have felt fairly plodding and generic. Proving that fans of any of his works should never write him off, however, I was pleasantly surprised to find that A Dying Machine (Napalm) is a step up for the Tremonti band in virtually every fashion.Continue reading

Slash Ft. Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators To Release Third Album Later In 2018

Despite being busy with their main projects, Slash Ft. Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators will unite again to release their third album next fall and plan to tour extensively. The band has just entered the studio to record with producer Elvis Baskette. Slash has spent the last few years on the Not In This Lifetime tour with Guns N Roses, while Alter Bridge has been touring, dropped a new album, as did Myles Kennedy, with his just-released Year Of The Tiger solo debut. Continue reading

Myles Kennedy – Year Of The Tiger

Loss is one of life’s harshest realities that will affect everyone in some way, shape or form. Whether it is family, loved ones, close friends; death is the cruelest of inevitabilities in this most unforgiving of worlds. The grieving process is unique to all of us, in both how we deal with the emotional scarring and in how long recovery takes if indeed, it ever truly does or even begins at all. For some, it can be quick, whilst for others, it may be much longer before acceptance truly takes place. Continue reading
