The fourth installment of Desert Fest NYC has now come and gone. I want to start by thanking the crew, they ran a three-day fest with everything starting on time and limited technical difficulties throughout the fest, they worked their backsides off and it showed.

ALBUM REVIEW: Sundrifter – An Earlier Time
Small Stone Recordings, which is famous for the renowned Acid King and Wo Fat listed in their roster, sure got their thing going by releasing An Earlier Time (Small Stone Records), the third studio album of none other than Sundrifter. Having been around since 2012, the Boston-based desert rock trio has left significant marks through their 2016 debut Not Coming Back, and their 2019 sophomore album Visitations. The Inaugural Heavy Chicago Fest Books Corrosion Of Conformity, D.R.I., Trouble, Novembers Doom, Repulsion, Macabre, and More
Chicago’s newest music venue, Avondale Music Hall, announces a brand-new metal festival – Heavy Chicago – offering three shows happening over two weekends this fall. Saturday, October 28 will host the return of Chicago’s own Trouble after five long years, along with Acid King featuring the return of Chicago native Lori S, plus stoner rock act Bongzilla from Madison, Wisconsin, and Chicago act Novembers Doom to kick off the night. The following weekend, Saturday, November 4 and Sunday, November 5 keep Heavy Chicago rolling with a Saturday night headlining spot from Corrosion Of Conformity and support from California space rockers Nebula as well as Milwaukee’s The Crosses featuring Die Kreuzen singer Dan Kubinski for an “all Die Kreuzen” set. Sunday wraps things up with legendary crossover thrash kings DRI celebrating 40 years of Crossover as well as the only 2023 worldwide show date for grindcore legends Repulsion and Chicago’s own Macabre. More acts will be announced soon. In addition to the music, Kuma’s will be onsite selling burgers and there will be PBR drink specials.
ALBUM REVIEW: Acid King – Beyond Vision
Beyond Vision (Blues Funeral Recordings) marks Acid King‘s fifth full-length album to date and its thirtieth anniversary as a band since their formation. It’s also the follow-up to 2015’s overlooked Middle of Nowhere, Centre of Everything album which Lori referred to in a recent interview on Conan Neutron‘s Protonic Reversal show with a hope of reissuing it at some point. Fingers crossed.
