The lineup for Saturday was stacked, in my opinion, headliner Mr. Bungle left the Milwaukee crowd in awe. Mike Patton is such a great front man so I felt privileged to watch this man perform again. San Francisco Thrash Metal legends Testament has one of the best performances I had ever seen them give in years. Connecticuts’ own Hatebreed ignited the ballroom with numerous mosh pits throughout their set.
My favorite for the day were Municipal Waste! Watching them from the balcony and seeing the giant spinning humanity of kids and giant circle pits was quite enjoyable. The Century Media Stage on Saturday was like a classic lineup of death, metal legends that included Death To All, Possessed, and Deicide. Reunited Louisiana natives Soilent Green performing for the first time in nearly 15 years is something that I thought I would never see happen again. They were amazing, and honestly probably the band I looked forward to seeing the most throughout the whole weekend and I am glad they did not disappoint. Another highlight of the day was Ross the Boss doing a classic Manowar set to a packed room. Powerhouse vocalist Marc Lopes had the room in the palm of his hands with epic crowd singalongs.
As I arrived at The Rave on Sunday around 1130 it was clear by the people lining up to get inside who they were there to see the powerhouse band Slaughter to Prevail. With many fans standing in line wearing the iconic chrome demon masks. They were prepared for the headliner for the last day of Milwaukee Metal fest.
Plain and simple Slaughter to Prevail were just freaking awesome from the opening note to the end of the show there were kids crowdsurfing and keeping security busy catching kids and they reached the stage. The giant mosh pits all across the ballroom floor throughout their performance were impressive. On the Century Media stage headliner In Flames had a definite buzz in the air prior to the start of the set. One of my all-time favorite bands I was not let down one iota as I watched their set. Other highlights of the day for me were Monochromatic Black, Gatecreeper, Dead By Wednesday, and I Am Morbid who I had not seen as of yet. The layout of the venue and the quick access to all the stages to see any band you wanted to was definitely an advantage of this festival. There were plenty of vendors to buy food and drinks in the courtyard and plenty of tables with umbrellas to take a break when needed, this was probably one of the best festivals I’ve ever covered and a huge thanks goes out to Jamey Jasta for bringing it back. Till next year!
