Exhorder Parts Ways with Founding Guitarist Vinnie LaBella

Quebec Deathfest, Mtelus, Montreal, CAN 10/20/18

Exhorder, enjoying a rejuvenated spirit and output as a band in recent years, has parted ways with founding guitarist Vinnie LaBella. The band issued a statement saying that they will fulfill their “touring and recording obligations for 2020 and beyond.” LaBella posted a message that seems to cast doubt on the mutual part, but that is yet to be confirmed, beyond a vague message. Exhorder released their new album, Mourn The Southern Skies, last September via Nuclear Blast Records. Singer Kyle Thomas is now the sole remaining founding member of the band. The rest of the current lineup is rounded out by Jason Viebrooks (HEATHEN) on bass, Marzi Montazeri (Ex-Superjoint Ritual, Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals) on guitar and Sasha Horn (Forbidden) on drums. They will undertake the new Wings Over The USA’ tour soon, featuring Overkill and Hydraform as well. Continue reading

Dee Snider Affiliated Petition for AC/DC to Play the SuperBowl has Nearly 30K Signatures!

As we previously reported, Heavy Metal legend Dee Snider has helped launch a Change.org petition to get the NFL to hire classic rock legends and recently reunited AC/DC to perform at the SuperBowl Halftime show. Originally started by a fan, Gina Di Lecce, the petition grew from fan outcry and Dee’s criticism on social media following this year’s halftime show performance from Shakira and Jennifer Lopez. Heavy music is used constantly in sports, especially the NFL. Famously rock and metal bands such as Metallica, Foo Fighters, Avenged Sevenfold, and Guns N Roses (2020) have all performed on the NFL’s pre-game concert the day before. Anyone performing at the big game performs for free and must pre-record and lip-sync their performance, which is why some groups like Metallica have said definitely no to performing, while The Red Hot Chili Peppers infamously made fun of themselves lip-synching in 2014, with Flea being the most notorious culprit. They also were a guest of Bruno Mars and not a headliner themselves that night. The last real rock act to perform at the SuperBowl Halftime Show was The Who in 2010.  in 2009. Anyway, sign the petition and let’s unite for rock and metal at The SuperBowl!

UADA Parts Ways with Drummer, Cancels Black Moon Festival Appearances

Quebec Deathfest, Foufounes Eletriques, Montreal, CAN 10/19/18

Rough news for UADA fans, especially in Central America. The band was to take part in two days of gigs at Black Moon Festivals but had to cancel at the 11th hour as their drummer Josiah Babcock was dismissed from the band for apparently opting not to participate in the tour. The band posted a lengthy apology on their Facebook to fans vowing to come back stronger. For his part, Babcock shared on his Facebook page that he had left the band as well, offering his side of the story and alleging bullying from another band member. The Portland, Oregon-based Black Metallers have set the underground on fire since forming in 2014 with tight performances and sick releases. Babcock joined in 2018. UADA has a European tour booked in six weeks or so, pending a fill-in or permanent replacement being announced. Continue reading

White Stones (Opeth) Share New Lyric Video for “Drowned In Time”

White Stones, the new death metal project which counts Opeth bassist Martin Mendez in its ranks, has shared a second single. Their forthcoming debut album Kuarahy, which releases  on March 13 via Nuclear Blast Records. Watch the lyric video for “Drowned In Time’ right now!

The band kicked off the pre-order for “Kuarahy”. The album will be available on CD, LP and digitally.

The tracklist of “Kuarahy” reads as follows:

1.Kuarahy (1:24)

2.Rusty Shell (4:25)

3.Worms (3:57)

4.Drowned In Time (5:17)

5.The One (4:34)

6.Guyra (4:45)

7.Ashes (4:04)

8.Infected Soul (5:59)

9.Taste Of Blood (4:10)

10.Jasy (2:48)

The creative process for White Stones’ debut album “Kuarahy” began during a year-long break Opeth took  after the Sorceress tour, as a means of unwinding by exploring new avenues of creativity. Initially that’s all it was ever meant to be. “I’ve always written music at home but never had the confidence to do anything like this” says Mendez, “I never wrote a song, never presented something I wrote for Mikael (Åkerfeldt, Opeth singer/songwriter)” he continues. “I didn’t have any direction, I came up with the first song for fun. White Stones has nothing to do with OPETH, I see no relation between the two. I played “Kuarahy” to Mikael a few months ago, he really liked it and was happy for me. Everyone in the band has side projects, it’s important. We tour so much you can become consumed by it; it has been really nice to do something different. White Stones has renewed my strength and energy.”

Named after his birthplace in Uruguay, the record represents a return to his roots, both familial and musically. By exploring the forgotten paths of his ancestors via the style of music that remains his one true love – death metal. “I feel strongly connected to Uruguay still,” he reflects. “I wanted to write music related to that – the sun on the Uruguayan flag I transformed into the White Stones logo; there are a lot of small things that connect the record to that place. “Kuarahy” is the native Uruguayan people’s word for ‘Sun’”, Mendez comments.

“Kuarahy” was recorded at the Farm Of Sounds studios in Barcelona and produced by Martin Mendez himself , while Jamie Gomez at the Orgone Studios in the UK was responsible for mixing and mastering.

White Stones Live:

March 20th, Eindhoven, The Netherlands – Prognosis Festival
