For just one weekend the Banc of California Stadium was transformed into a carnivalesque outdoor funhouse for the Adult Swim Festival. The stadium was alive with colorful distorted animations reminiscent of children’s cartoons and claymation scenes warped and hyperbolized beyond the mind’s comprehension, while a giant Meatwad dome sat across an even larger inflatable slide shaped like Morty’s head vomiting a rainbow.
Award-winning animated Rock/Rap/Pop supergroup Gorillaz are the subject of a new feature-length documentary dubbed Gorillaz: Reject False Icons, directed by Denholm Hewlett. Metal fans have mourned the loss of Brendon Small’s Metalocalypse television series and the real-life metal band that represented the music of the show Dethklok. The band will make its triumphant return and play its the first show in five years at the play the second annual Adult Swim Festival. The two-day event at Los Angeles’ Banc of California Stadium. It had been 7 years since the last time Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett better known for their virtual band Gorillaz had graced Massachusetts with their presence. So it made perfect sense that they had a sold out show at the 5000 capacity Blue Hills Bank Pavilion. Instead of hiding behind a backdrop and have the virtual animated characters be front and center, Albarn and Hewlett along with many guests, a choir, and full band performed over 20 songs encompassing their 19-year career over 5 full-length albums.Continue reading
