Despised Icon

Reunited deathcore pioneers Despised Icon have announce a run of North American shows. The band will perform four days across North America in December and whilst there are no plans for a full tour or new studio album the band have confirmed they are just happy to be back performing together. The tour will start on the 12th December in Montreal and conclude in Worcester on the 21st December.

Press release:

Reactivated Montreal, Canadian death metal pioneers, Despised Icon, have now announced some North American shows this Winter. The band recently performed a run of dates in Europe, four years after announcing that the group would be disbanding. While no album or full tour is planned, the members of the group are just happy to be back on stage performing together.

Vocalist, Alex Erian comments:”Cheers to everyone that came out to our reunion shows this summer. The response was overwhelming. It felt just like in the good old days. We promised you a few more in Canada and the US, so here you go! There won’t be any other dates so don’t miss out. Keep it brutal.”

Confirmed dates and final dates:
Dec 13 – Montreal, QC @ Club Soda
Dec 14 – Toronto, ON @ Opera House
Dec 20 – New York, NY @ Gramercy Theatre
Dec 21 – Worcester, MA @ Palladium

Having created quite a buzz with their debut album, 2002’s Consumed By Your Poison, Despised Icon’s brand of technical death infused hardcore matured and developed over the years, arguably reaching its peak with 2007’s classic, The Ills of Modern Man. The band has sold over 150,000 albums worldwide and have influenced countless number of bands in the metal and hardcore scene today.

Despised Icon disbanded in 2010 after a series of sold out farewell shows across their home country.

“In their newest album, 9 Dead Alive, Rodrigo y Gabriela return to their roots,” writes NPR Music, reminding listeners why they fell in love with the Mexican duo in the first place. The album finds them at the peak of their musical flexibility.” Consequence Of Sound praised their “remarkable guitar chops and their outright refusal to rest on their laurels.” While Relix noted that “production of the album lets their guitars have full effect, with each note hitting a nerve.”

Recorded at their Pacific Coast hideaway in Ixtapa, Mexico, 9 Dead Alive captures the warmth and spontaneity of two great musicians riffing and jamming together; perfectly distilled into nine new songs teeming with desire, elegance and gusto. Representing their first collection of new material in 5 years, each of the songs on the album are a personal celebration of individuals who have passed on, but through their deeds and words still resonate in the 21st century. Going as far back as Eleanor of Acquitaine (1122 – 1204) to Viktor Frankl (1905 – 1997), and including a tribute to one of Rod and Gab’s enduring touchstones – animals and nature.

Sevendust Announce Final Acoustic Tour Dates

Sevendust 2014 Press Picture
US active rock/metal group Sevendust have announce the final leg of their acoustic tour. The band will kick off a series of dates across the US in November to mark the release of their most recent album Time Travellers & Bonfires. The shows will start in Knoxville, TN on the 4th November and will run through til the 26th in Birmingham Alabama.

Press Release:
October 3, 2014 — SEVENDUST has announced the third and final leg of their acoustic U.S. tour in support of their critically acclaimed acoustic album, TIME TRAVELERS & BONFIRES, which kicks off November 4 in Knoxville, TN at The International. It’s the first time the band will play these cities this year, including the band’s hometown of Atlanta. Tickets go on sale Saturday, October 4 at 10:00am EST. They’ll be joined by the Alabama rock band A.Z., who’ll also be performing acoustic.

Released April 15 on the band’s 7Bros. Records, in conjunction with ADA Label Services, TIME TRAVELERS & BONFIRES debuted at #1 on Billboard’s “Top Hard Music Albums” chart (their second consecutive #1 album).

After taking a break once the tour concludes to spend the holidays with their families, the Atlanta band will go return to the studio in early 2015 to get back to basics and record the follow-up to their last plugged-in album, BLACK OUT THE SUN.

Even though SEVENDUST will be playing acoustic guitars instead of electric on this run, they won’t be turning down the intensity of their notoriously explosive live performances. As New Noise Magazine raved: “Sevendust’s acoustic show at the always cool Highline Ballroom in New York City’s lower West Side was hands down one of the best shows I’ve ever been to in my life… At times vocalist Lajon Witherspoon, one of the most talented men in rock, was even moved to tears while thanking the crowd repeatedly… while drummer Morgan Rose kicked ass and seemed to play as intensely as he does in an electric mode…7D showed everyone the range and impact they are capable of… The band, Vince, John, Morgan, Clint and Lajon, have more groove, harmony and talent in their pinkies than most band’s ever reach.”

While the Buffalo News noted, “‘…a bit gentler’ for this group is still twice as loud and fierce as most others are at full force. Though the guitars were indeed acoustic, they were still amped up and strumming furiously along to keep up with lead singer Lajon Witherspoon’s powerhouse voice. It was acoustic with a caustic bite, something Sevendust managed with style and confidence.” And the Denver Post praised: “Most songs were rearranged to be performed acoustic, and while toned down, they resonated with power and energy few bands can match without being overwhelmingly amped up with distortion.”

Last month, SEVENDUST gave television viewers a glimpse into their acoustic show with their first-ever concert special on AXS TV, which aired as part of the network’s Headliner Club Series. Check out Come Down from the show here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mPG6_LpqLw.

Arch Enemy & Kreator Announce 7″ Split

Arch Enemy/Kreator 7" split cover

Melodic death metal titans Arch Enemy & thrash icons Kreator have teamed up for a 7” split which will be released before the two embark on a North American tour in October. The split consisting of the Kreator track ‘Iron Destiny’ and Arch Enemy’s cover of the Judas Priest classic ‘Breaking The Law’. The two will also make it over the pond in November/December to continue their co-headlining tour across Europe.

Press Release:
This October/November, metal icons ARCH ENEMY will be returning to North American soil to tour in support of their new, critically acclaimed album, War Eternal! To celebrate this momentous headlining trek, the band will be releasing a split 7″ with KREATOR, who are direct support on the run. Available starting at the Baltimore show on October 23, be sure to purchase this exclusive transparent red 7″ (limited to 500 copies) at the merch table; a dark red 7″ (limited to 500 copies) will also be available on KREATOR and ARCH ENEMY’s European tour, which sees ARCH ENEMY as direct support.

ARCH ENEMY/KREATOR split 7″ track-listing:
Side A (ARCH ENEMY)
1. Breaking The Law (JUDAS PRIEST cover)
Side B (KREATOR)
1. Iron Destiny

ARCH ENEMY’s Michael Amott (guitar) comments: “Super excited about the upcoming tours in Europe and USA with KREATOR, and it’s really cool to have this split vinyl 7″ coming out to celebrate the extreme metal party of the year! Covering the JUDAS PRIEST classic ‘Breaking The Law’ is obviously not the most original idea, but this is a heavily rearranged version that sounds very ARCH ENEMY, and anyhow there’s no denying that the mighty PRIEST is a great influence on ARCH ENEMY…Enjoy this unique and limited KREATOR/ARCH ENEMY release and see you on the road!”

KREATOR’s Mille Petrozza (vocals, guitar) comments: “Finally, after all these years, ARCH ENEMY and KREATOR not only tour together, but will also release a split single! I have always been a fan of this stuff since these are special little collector’s items. We chose the song Iron Destiny for this. Lyrically this is a tribute to the early days of the band, the days when we were young metal-heads, discovering the music that we still love to this day. KREATOR is looking forward to this run and we hope to see all of you!”

ARCH ENEMY is currently touring the world in support of War Eternal, which was hailed as the band’s “strongest album in years” (DECIBEL MAGAZINE). To purchase War Eternal, head over to iTunes or AmazonMP3 for a digital copy with a bonus track; a variety of physical formats is also available at CM Distro and your local retailer.
