Everyone likes a challenge. Devin Townsend more than most. Each new record is about setting goals and attempting to achieve them. Whether it’s an introspective deep dive or an explosion of absurdist non-conformity, the progressive polymath’s albums always tend to reflect his state of mind, even if it happens to be completely barking at that particular time.Continue reading

Roadrunner United Release Celebrating The Iconic Label to See a Rerelease in 2023
Roadrunner United was a project organized by iconic hard rock record label Roadrunner Records to celebrate its 25th anniversary, culminating in the U.S. Billboard Top 200, UK Albums, and Australian ARIA Albums-charting original The All Star Sessions. Four “team captains” (Slipknot’s Joey Jordison (RIP), Machine Head’s Robb Flynn, Fear Factory’s Dino Cazares, and Trivium’s Matthew K. Heafy) were chosen to lead 57 artists from 45 past and present Roadrunner bands. On December 15, 2005, a concert celebrating the project, album, and anniversary took place at the Nokia Theater in New York City. That star-studded event featured multiple musicians, both past and present, from Roadrunner bands — as well as musicians that did not originally perform on the All-Star Sessions album. Now that album is getting a release in 2023 on multiple formats. Watch the live performance video of “The End (Live)” featuring Fear Factory’s Dino Cazares, and Trivium’s Matthew K. Act Of Defiance Post Studio Update
Act Of Defiance, the new band featuring former Megadeth guitarist Chris Broderick and drummer Shawn Drover, former Scar The Martyr singer Henry Derek Bonner and bassist Matt Bachand (Shadows Fall), issued an update on the recording of their debut album. They entered the studio with producer Chris “Zeuss” Harris (Rob Zombie, Hatebreed, Shadows Fall) to record their debut album via Metal Blade Records. View the album trailer below.
“At this point of the recording of the new Act Of Defiance record — drums, rhythm guitars, bass — are finished. Guitar solos, clean guitars are pretty close to being completed, and Henry is around 70 percent done with vocals.
“The guys still have a few weeks to wrap things up, as it were, before we begin to mix the record with Chris ‘Zeuss’ Harris, for which I personally cannot wait.“The finish line is not far away in terms of the recording process and all of us cannot wait for you to hear what we have been working on for the past several months.”
He continues:
“People often ask me: what does the new music sound like? I loathe putting music in a nice tiny ‘heavy metal sub-genre’ box, so I won’t. Like I have said from the get-go, this music is 100 percent pure heavy metal made purely for musical purposes. We are creating music that we totally love, with hopes that others will dig it as well, which, at the end of the day, is all you really can try to do, in my opinion. Elements of thrash, progressive, traditional, dynamic — it’s all there and then some.
“We have been working with Travis Smith (Opeth, Nevermore, Overkill, Sanctuary) for our artwork, to which he has really come up with some twisted, bizarre, awesome concepts (right up my alley), which has also been very exciting. We cannot wait to see the finished ideas, to which he will provide in due time.”
A message from Act Of Defiance’s Shawn Drover:”So, I think it’s time for an update, so let’s go!!!!!!At this point…

Grey Skies Fallen Releasing Introspective/Along Came Life Digitally As Pay As You Wish Format
New York blackened death/doom metal outfit Grey Skies Fallen have released Introspective/Along Came Life CD, is now available as a pay as you wish download format via Bandcamp.
The fourth release from Grey Skies Fallen, the four-song Along Came Life EP, was released in 2010, recorded during tumultuous times for the band. This is the last recording with original member Joe D’Angelo on guitar, and sitting in on bass was Paul LaPlaca (October Thorns, Zandelle). Two years later, they released the three-song Introspective EP, the 2012 recording captured at a point when the band was technically a three-piece, with Dave Case (Helmet, Afterbirth) providing bass tracks. This EP features the twenty-one minute title track, perhaps the most ambitious recording from the band to date. Both recorded at Keith Moore at his Audio Playground in Patchogue, New York, together, these “lost EPs” fill the void between GSF LPs, bridging 2006’s Two Way Mirror, and 2014’s The Many Sides of Truth, and now see rebirth in one deluxe digipak CD, displaying the artwork by Travis Smith in a physical delivery for the first time.
The band is continuing to write new material for their follow up album to The Many Sides Of Truth.
