Thou Releases New Nirvana Covers Album As a Digital Release

Thou rules, and if you are not aware, they do lots of covers. Mainly they do inventive takes on classic songs. Over the years, Thou has released a whole lot of covers and especially Nirvana covers. Sometimes, those covers have been relatively easy to find, as with the version of “Floyd The Barber” on the 2016 Bleach tribute album Doused In Mud, Soaked In Bleach. Some of those covers have been pretty hard to track down. Today, though, Thou has put them all together. Now they have released Blessings Of The Highest Order, a new digital collection of all the Nirvana covers that they’ve released over the years. The album showed up mysteriously on Spotify last week, with no advance warning and no social-media alert from the band. Now it’s on Bandcamp and out via Robotic Empire. Roadburn had a landmark festival in 2019, and they continue to share full audio streams of sets from bands. Among the performances that went going live today from RB2019 are Thou (acoustic and Magus-era), Lingua Ignota, Henrik Palm, MJ Guider, Louise Lemón, Thor & Friends, Grails, Wolvennest, Bliss Signal and the Seven That Spells album trilogy shows. Charity Compilation “Riffs for Reproductive Justice” Surpasses $10K USD in the First 48 Hours

A charity compilation aimed at donating 100% of proceeds to the National Network of Abortion Funds (NNAH: https://www.abortionfunds.org) and the Yellowhammer Fund (https://www.yellowhammerfund.org) has been a big success in just the first 48 hours. Riffs for Reproductive Justice is 33-track set includes artists from Hether Fortune, Closet Witch, Vile Creature, Sunrot, Dawn Ray’d and Racetraitor, Twin Temple, Svalbard, and special tracks include Cliterati’s cover of L7’s ‘Fast and Frightening,’ Fucked and Bound’s cover of Sonic Youth’s ‘Kool Thang’ and Thou’s cover of the Leadbelly classic, ‘In the Pines’, which they teased on social media earlier in the week. Organized by Activist and metal journalist Kim Kelly (ex-Noisey, Rolling Stone) who recently launched the Black Flags Over Brooklyn anti-facist music festival in Brooklyn, sees many of these acts who participated in the fest. Donation receipts will be posted in a Dropbox folder which will be shared with the bands and with anyone who requests access. Roadburn, now in its 20th year, is a fest I had promised I would start going to many, many years ago but for one reason or another never did. This year I went and although it is like other music fests in some ways, I can say that it is equally unlike other fests in many other ways. FESTIVAL PREVIEW: ROADBURN 2019

Today is the day! After the pre-fest party last night, the sold-out Roadburn 2019 kicks off today, and for the next four days in Tilburg, Netherlands will smash you a full slate of bands. Major artists like Sleep, At The Gates, Thou, Cave In, Old Man Gloom, Daughters, Myrkur and more will perform in intimate settings you won’t see at any other festival. The fest even added last minute local artists Doodswens (Dutch for Deathwish), a two-piece black metal group that we’ll have our ears peeled for. Some of the the can’t miss groups include two sets by Sleep, three sets from Mono and the Jo Quail Quartet, Pharmakon, Crypt Trip, Emma Ruth Rundle, Twin Temple, Crowhurst, Hexvessel, Craft, Triptykon & Metrolope Orkest (new song performance ‘Requiem’) Drab Majesty, Street Sects, Bosse-De-Nage, Thou & Emma Ruth Rundle, Svalbard, Conjurer, Soft Kill, Imperial Triumphant, Cave, Birds In Row, Bossk, Coilguns, Old Man Gloom, Crowhurst & Gnaw Their Tongues, Ulcerate, Marissa Nadler, Wrong, Daughters, and many more. Roadburn Is Sold Out For 2019, Kicks Off This Week With Pre-Party Show

Roadburn 2019 takes place later this week in Tilburg, NL, and the fest is totally sold out. The legendary music festival looks to mint more memories this year with more can’t miss acts, commissioned works, and major artists like Sleep, At The Gates, Thou, Cave In, Old Man Glood, Daughters, Myrkur and more performing in intimate settings you won’t see at any other festival. Matt Pike (solo) of Sleep and High on Fire is the final artist added to the Magnetic Eye Records’ Black Sabbath Tribute, Vol. 4 Redux, the latest in their Redux series of reissues. Pike joins a star-studded Doom Metal genre list of bands including Zakk Sabbath, Thou, Spirit Adrift, The Obsessed, Bongzilla, Whores., Haunt, High Reeper, and Tony Reed.
