CONCERT REVIEW: Ulcerate – Autarkh Live at Poppodium 013


Opening today are Tilburg locals Autarkh, whom I first discovered playing the 2021 Roadburn Redux show. Eclectic and heavy, the band mix electronics with metal elements, so much that Encyclopedia Metalum (a.k.a Metal Archives) doesn’t even consider them metal enough. Tonight, though, the band have a live drummer with them, who plays the angular beats with relish. Frontman and guitarist Michel Nienhuis (formerly Dodecahedron) is clearly very much in the groove. A groove expertly set by their temping bassist, who learned the complex material in only a week. It’s very hard to stick a genre on what Autarkh make, but I’d call them Avant-Garde Math Metal.Continue reading

Moonlight Sorcery Booked for Fortress Festival



Finland’s symphonic black metallers, Moonlight Sorcery (Avantgarde Music records), have been announced for an exclusive appearance at the 2025 edition of Fortress Festival. Their only show outside of Finland until at least 2026, this will also be a UK and international debut. Fortress Festival will take place on the weekend of 31 May – 1 June 2025 at Scarborough Spa. Ulcerate Shares a New Single and Video “The Dawn Is Hollow” – New Album Incoming


Ulcerate, the New Zealand trio who Decibel Magazine hailed as “one of the most forward-thinking death metal bands around,” return with their highly-anticipated new album, Cutting the Throat of God, on June 14 via Debemur Morti Productions.
