Roadburn, now in its 20th year, is a fest I had promised I would start going to many, many years ago but for one reason or another never did. This year I went and although it is like other music fests in some ways, I can say that it is equally unlike other fests in many other ways. Many of my personal experiences will not be akin to a standard festival goer due to the nature of what I do obviously but if you bear with me here I can explain some things that the average person should expect when and if they decide to go is on their list of priorities. FESTIVAL PREVIEW: ROADBURN 2019
Today is the day! After the pre-fest party last night, the sold-out Roadburn 2019 kicks off today, and for the next four days in Tilburg, Netherlands will smash you a full slate of bands. Major artists like Sleep, At The Gates, Thou, Cave In, Old Man Gloom, Daughters, Myrkur and more will perform in intimate settings you won’t see at any other festival. The fest even added last minute local artists Doodswens (Dutch for Deathwish), a two-piece black metal group that we’ll have our ears peeled for. Some of the the can’t miss groups include two sets by Sleep, three sets from Mono and the Jo Quail Quartet, Pharmakon, Crypt Trip, Emma Ruth Rundle, Twin Temple, Crowhurst, Hexvessel, Craft, Triptykon & Metrolope Orkest (new song performance ‘Requiem’) Drab Majesty, Street Sects, Bosse-De-Nage, Thou & Emma Ruth Rundle, Svalbard, Conjurer, Soft Kill, Imperial Triumphant, Cave, Birds In Row, Bossk, Coilguns, Old Man Gloom, Crowhurst & Gnaw Their Tongues, Ulcerate, Marissa Nadler, Wrong, Daughters, and many more. Roadburn Is Sold Out For 2019, Kicks Off This Week With Pre-Party Show
Roadburn 2019 takes place later this week in Tilburg, NL, and the fest is totally sold out. The legendary music festival looks to mint more memories this year with more can’t miss acts, commissioned works, and major artists like Sleep, At The Gates, Thou, Cave In, Old Man Glood, Daughters, Myrkur and more performing in intimate settings you won’t see at any other festival. Roadburn Announces Final Bands Including Craft, Bosse-De-Nage, Street Sects, Glerakur and More!
Roadburn 2019 is already sold out for the entire four-day weekend, but they have added another and final round of amazing bands. Craft (added by Tomas Lindberg to his curated event), Bosse-De-Nage, Street Sects, Glerakur, MJ Guider (Melissa Guion), L’acéphale, and Grey Aura have been added to the main weekend acts. Roadburn Festival Is Nearly Sold Out For 2019
On the heels of their day tickets going on sale and one stellar horde of bands announced after another were added to the bill, Roadburn Festival is nearly sold-out for 2019. The fest made an announcement in the Facebook event page that all 3 and 4- day tickets are now gone, as well as Saturday and Sunday day tickets are now completely sold out. Roadburn continues to add to its bill for next spring! 2019 curator Tomas Lindberg (At The Gates) adds more names to The Burning Darkness including Grails, Uran, Fontän and Hexvessel! Hexvesel will perform All Tree in full. Other notables include a Dutch black metal showcase commissioned project Maalstroom (members of Laster, Verwoed, Witte Wieven, Turia, Fluisteraars, Grey Aura, Terzij De Horde, Folteraar, Nefast). Aaron Turner, Will Brooks and Dennis Tyfus come together as Doolhof. Also added are Bismuth, Coilguns, Crowhurst, Crowhurst & Gnaw Their Tongues unite in Harsh Noise, Fauna , Fotocrime , Lucy In Blue, Pharmakon, Thor & Friends, Twin Temple, and Wrong. The Devil’s Blood Members Come Together As Molasses At Roadburn 2019
Roadburn has commissioned a special band debut for its 2019 edition: Molassess. Molasses spawned from the former members of The Devil’s Blood and Selim Lemouchi & His Enemies along with allies such as Marcel van der Vondervoort of Astrosoniq, Bob Hogenelst (Birth of Joy) and Matthijs Stronks (Donnerwetter). This new band carries the spirit of their previous bands, but in all new music, not a tribute act.
