ALBUM REVIEW: Lindsay Schoolcraft – Martyr

Some good advice I received from my mentor in music criticism was to never underestimate or pigeonhole an artist. Cradle of Filth has made a twenty-five year career out of Black and Death Metal music supremacy, often covering the dark and all about that blasphemous life. Although she definitely has earned her place in that world as a member of that band, singer and multi-talented musician Lindsay Schoolcraft displays a wide array of gifts will not fit in a neat box for you to file and categorize. On her debut solo album Martyr (Self-Released), she satisfies her jones (and ours) for all types of Gothy Metal and Rock styles.

In the first taste of new music from her album, Schoolcraft flexes her considerable vocal talents on this unique take on a memorable song. We’re looking forward to hearing the originals on the album created with former Evanescence drummer Rocky Gray. Jam the track out now complete with a sick lyric video!Continue reading

Thank You Scientist – Terraformer

My issue with Thank You Scientist’s Terraformer (Evil Ink) is the same problem I have with Luca Guadagnino’s recent take on the Suspiria: don’t confuse self-indulgence with genius. I appreciate the balls it takes to drop an 84-minute opus and these New Jersey natives are fucking talented players, but do they really have nearly an hour and a half of captivating sounds? Unless your name is Bob Dylan or The Cure I’m not sure I need such a serving. Continue reading

Hellcats Release New Album – “The Hex And The Healer”

Two-piece South African heavy rockers Hellcats just dropped their badass new album The Hex And The Healer. With just eight songs over 22 minutes, the album is an adrenaline spike to the heart of furious riffs, raucous rhythms and sweltering vocals. Basically a lot of what is missing from today’s cleaned up, watered down excuses for rock. Hellcats are comprised of Alessandro Benigno on drums and vocals and Warwick Rautenbach on guitar. Recorded by Craig Hawkins at Audio Militia in Johannesburg, the band worked closely with producers Nick Argyros, Paul Norwood, and Craig Hawkins. The band has also announced two festival appearances, Up the Creek and Saggy Stone Beer Festival, and a new tour opening for The Cure to support The Hex And The Healer is available for purchase or streaming below.

The band commented on the album:

Recording with Audio Militia you get three producers, each with a great guitar, vocal and drum influence respectively – so each instrument was pushed as hard as it could have been.”

Drummer and vocalist Alessandro added:

Nick is a wizard drummer and he helped me a lot with my style and even set up. He’s also a great vocalist and helped a lot with vocal hooks too. I appreciate the fact that he doesn’t take shit – if it’s kak you’ll do it again and again until he’s happy.”

Def Leppard, The Cure, Stevie Nicks, Radiohead, Janet Jackson And More Elected To The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame

The ever-edgy and controversial Rock And Roll Hall of Fame announced it’s 2019 induction class. Making it in Def Leppard, The Cure, Stevie Nicks, Radiohead, Janet Jackson, The Zombies, and Roxy Music. Not making the cut from the finalists were Todd Rundgren (who like Def Leppard and Nicks factored in the fan voting) Rage Against the Machine, MC5, Kraftwerk, Devo, LL Cool J, John Prine, and Rufus & Chaka Khan. The fan voting actually carries very little weight (one 1,000th of a real vote), but plays out in public on social media. In total, an international voting body of more than 1,000 artists, including current living inductees, historians and members of the music industry, were able to cast their votes alongside the fan ballot. Factors such as the artist’s musical influence, length, and depth of their career, their body of work, innovation and superiority in style and technique were taken into consideration. What kind of Hall of Fame is it really when Rage Against the Machine or Devo can’t get in? Anyway The 34th Annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, presented by Klipsch Audio, will take place on Friday, March 29 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. Ticket on-sale dates for the event will be announced in January, though a limited number of pre-sale tickets are available to Rock Hall members. As in past years, HBO will have a Rock Hall special airing not long after the ceremony, while SiriusXM will also have a radio broadcast.Continue reading
