There’s a definite sense of déjà vu within the Exodus camp these days. The recent news of vocalist Steve “Zetro” Souza leaving to be replaced by Rob Dukes already happened back in the mid-2000s, while founder member Gary Holt skipping out briefly to tour with Slayer is another notable case of history repeating itself. Musically, however, things have been kept on a more even keel. The last two Exodus records were sick, slick slabs of unbridled thrashing mayhem, but with the return of Dukes, changes are afoot again…

Steve “Zetro” Souza Exits Exodus, Robb Dukes Returns In Time for New Album

Zetro out – Robb Dukes in!

Exodus have announced the departure of vocalist Steve “Zetro” Souza. In a major shock to the thrash metal world, Rob Dukes, (2004-2014) is back in the band. Zetro joined Exodus in 1986 and stayed until until 1993, returning from 2002-2004 and leaving after the recording of Tempo of The Damned. Zetro infamously quit the week before the tour for that album. Founding Exodus vocalist Paul Baloff died in 2022 following a stroke that left him in a coma. ALBUM REVIEW: Exodus – Persona Non Grata

There’s a line in 1982 science fiction movie Blade Runner which goes: “The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long”. While this might be true, every rule has its exception and Bay Area thrashers Exodus are exactly that. Since dishing out their first full-length lesson in violence way back in 1985, the San Franciscan legends have seen off opposition from virtually everywhere. Even with an extended hiatus during the nineties the band’s absence never felt terminal, more like they were simply lying in wait to strike again.
