Fell To Low – Low In The Dust

11027443_10152984092327304_5003301628776185673_n

Post-hardcore is a genre which has thrived in recent years, which is due to a vast number of reasons. One of these is the so-called ‘Tumblr’ bands, such as La Dispute and Defeater, whose music seems to appeal to teenagers and those in their early twenties, while one of the most popular features of the genre is the meaningful and deep lyrics which people can relate to. Another band which is sure to prove a hit with the younger generation is Fell To Low, a California-based quintet with their latest release Low In The Dust (Revelation).

It is easy to hear from the first song alone, ‘Galore’, that there is something different about Fell To Low: the haunting guitar riffs and deep lyrical content gives the album an almost eerie feel. It is pretty much impossible to listen to the music without feeling somewhat attached to it, subconsciously or not. Fell To Low manage to grab your attention for the entire forty eight minutes of the record, and the end gives you an almost cathartic-like feeling.

Another stand-out track is ‘Boundary’, which opens with a slower yet beautiful guitar riff. The song soon descends into an almost chaotic structure, which is emphasised by Travis Farmer’s hard-hitting and frantic vocal style. The pace continually changes throughout the nine minute song, which allows the listener to stay focussed and interested.

Fell To Low have managed to create an impressive album which will appeal to fans across the post-hardcore and punk genres. Their emotional yet chaotic musical style allows the listener to fully engage with it, which is a quality that many bands are unable to achieve.

Reunited Into Another Releasing Omens EP

into another

New York post rock veterans Into Another have returned with their new five song EP titled Omens, which is out today (April 14, 2015). Featuring Richie Birkenhead (one time guitarist for Youth Of Today and vocalist for Underdog) and drummer Drew Thomas (formerly of Crippled Youth and Bold), they assembled a new musical unit then around former Whiplash bassist Tony Bono and then newcomer Peter Moses on guitar. They recorded two full lengths and two EPs via Revelation Records before their 1995 major label release Seemless before their untimely demise a couple years later, alongside Bono’s sudden passing in 2002. They reunited in 2012 for the Revelation Records 25th Anniversary shows with Brian Balchack (Ignite) and Reid Black (Innaway) joining on guitar and bass respectively.

UK based Violent Reaction is releasing their sopohomore release Marching On on March 31, 2015 via Revelation Records. Stream “Leave Me Out” here.

Originally conceived and executed as a one-man project by Tom Pimlott on the banks of the Mersey River in Liverpool, VIOLENT REACTION is already responsible for several well-received recordings since its 2011 inception. Through an initial demo, a self-titled EP through Quality Control Records and reissued by 6131 Records, the Painkiller Records-released 2013 debut LP, City Streets — of which multiple pressings have been sold — and 2014-released Dead-End EP, also through Painkiller, the Oi-influenced, straightedge, hardcore streetpunk vitality of these works now sees the name VIOLENT REACTION a centerpiece of the current UK scene. Pimlott has recently relocated to Leeds and expanded the outfit to a full lineup, which has already hit the ground at full steam, including US tours with Hounds Of Hate and brother band, The Flex, under their belts.

2015 sees VIOLENT REACTION striking harder than ever, having inked a worldwide deal with Revelation Records, for the upcoming release of their second LP, Marching On, a must-hear for disciples of Negative Approach, Blitz, The 4-Skins, Straight Ahead, The Pist and 86 Mentality.
