ALBUM REVIEW: Ignite – Ignite

Self-titled albums can be something of a double-edged sword (just ask Suicide Silence…) particularly when you’re jumping in twenty-five years into a career and following a significant line-up change, Zoltán Téglás having departed in 2020 after over a quarter of a century behind the mic stand. Understandably, there is always caution and concern about such an integral part of a band’s sound changing, let alone that happening this deep into their innings. Here, though, Californian punks Ignite benefit from never having been the most prolific of outfits – Ignite (Century Media) being only their sixth album overall despite the band debuting in 1994 – and the fact that their last outing, A War Against You, was not their strongest. More melodic than his predecessor, though not to the detriment of any gusto, Eli Santana (actor, guitarist for Holy Grail, Incite, ex-Huntress) is the voice of their return to competitive action some six years on, and fits in seamlessly.

Disturbed, by Meg Loyal Photography

Sacramento, California once again hosted the top west coast rock and metal festival in America this year as Monster Energy Aftershock took over NorCal for an entire weekend. The lineup was killer, the fest goers were chill, and the non-music events and activities were fun for all. Danny Wimmer Presents and the team at AEG Live who also put on fests such as Rock On The Range, Monster Energy Welcome To Rockville, Monster Energy Fort Rock, Monster Energy Carolina Rebellion, Louder Than Life and more do a fantastic job from start to finish, as with every fest they manage. into another

New York post rock veterans Into Another have returned with their new five song EP titled Omens, which is out today (April 14, 2015). Featuring Richie Birkenhead (one time guitarist for Youth Of Today and vocalist for Underdog) and drummer Drew Thomas (formerly of Crippled Youth and Bold), they assembled a new musical unit then around former Whiplash bassist Tony Bono and then newcomer Peter Moses on guitar. They recorded two full lengths and two EPs via Revelation Records before their 1995 major label release Seemless before their untimely demise a couple years later, alongside Bono’s sudden passing in 2002. They reunited in 2012 for the Revelation Records 25th Anniversary shows with Brian Balchack (Ignite) and Reid Black (Innaway) joining on guitar and bass respectively.
