As we reported yesterday, shredder Phil Demmel (ex-Machine Head) is stepping in for thrash legend Gary Holt for the remainder of Slayer’s current European farewell tour dates. Gary Holt To Sit Out Remaining European Slayer Tour Dates, Phil Demmel Steps In
Thrash metal legend Gary Holt (Exodus) who has been touring with Slayer since Jeff Hanneman passed away in 2013, has announced his departure from the current European farewell tour of Slayer. Holt’s father is gravely ill and Holt has been performing of late with this weighing on him for some time. Holt made the announcement in a post on social media and has the full support of his band. Former Machine Head guitarist Phil Demmel, fresh off his final tour with that band will step in for the remaining dates. Demmel will take over tonight (December 3rd) in Copenhagen, Denmark. Metal Allegiance Books 5th Annual Winter Show, Playing New York This Weekend In Brooklyn
Metal supergroup Metal Allegiance has booked their 5th annual show at House Of Blues Anaheim on January 24th, always surrounding the winter NAMM show. The night will include several special guests as well as feature music from their debut album and recent release Volume II – Power Drunk Majesty (Nuclear Blast). Joining the band will be Andreas Kisser (Sepultura), Mark Osegueda (Death Angel), John Bush (Armored Saint), Chuck Billy (Testament), Bobby Blitz (Overkill), Trevor Strnad (The Black Dahlia Murder), Mark Tornillo (Accept), Phil Demmel (Machine Head), Alissa White-Gluz – Official Page (Arch Enemy) and Doyle W. Von Frankenstein (The Misfits). The night will be presented by Nuclear Blast & sponsored by IK Multimedia, Murder in the Front Row, by Harald Oimoen & Brian Lew & Orange Amplifiers. Machine Head Clarifies Lineup Changes, Not Breaking Up
In a message to their social networks, as well as an email message to their fans, Machine Head has clarified their earlier announcement about their future. Along with the previous message that Phil Demmel and Dave Mcclain are departing the band after long tenures, the band is officially continuing on with founder Robb Flynn and Jared MacEachern and eventually, new members. The upcoming “Farewell tour” is more of a farewell of the current lineup.
Machine Head Members Quit, Band To Go On Hiatus After Next US Tour
In a shocking Facebook Live video, Robb Flynn has announced that Machine Head is going on hiatus at the end of the next tour. Earlier in the week two of the other members, Phil Demmel and Dave McClain officially quit the band, intending the next US tour, “The Freaks And Zeros Tour”, to be their last. Flynn has decided to end the band rather than continue. The band will take a least a hiatus from the sound of it, as Flynn sounded unsure if the band will replace them, or not from the video. Bassist Jared MacEachern also had contemplated quitting but sounds as if he will remain if the band continues. See the video and some of Flyyn’s quotes below.
