Blending his biggest hits from his solo career and a bit of Black Sabbath nostalgia, Ozzy Osbourne kicked off his farewell as a touring last night in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Stone Sour provides the direct support on all dates. Dubbed the “No More Tours 2” Tour, this is reportedly Ozzy’s final stint of long runs of concert dates, although like Sabbath he hasn’t ruled out one-off festival appearances and concerts in the future. He is adamantly not retiring and has wavered off and on about making new music. He also hinted at a future Ozzfest in New York City, but it appears there won’t be one in 2018.Continue reading

Type O Negative’s Bloody Kisses Turns 25 Years Old
The early 1990s of metal were a veritable free for all. In the years preceding the Nu-Metal age, there was definitely a push back if you were trying to be unique and blending genres of metal in any way. If you were anything beyond a typical thrash or hardcore band, with a few exceptions (some death metal, Faith No More) you might have been shunned. In the case of Type O Negative, they didn’t just innovate and try new things, they kicked the goddamn door in and blew us all away. They never did this more than on 1993’s Bloody Kisses (Roadrunner) album. Mostly eschewing the straight up thrash hardcore of frontman Peter Steele’s previous band, Carnivore, Type O was a swampy, sexy mix of Black Sabbath doom riffs, Beatles melodies and The Cure meets Sisters of Mercy Goth rock. The sound would shift the landscape and make unlikely stars of arguably the greatest band to ever emerge from Brooklyn. Continue reading
Jason “J-Sin” Luttrell Of Primer 55, Dead At Age 40
Sad news to report as Jason “J-Sin” Luttrell, best known as the frontman and co-founder of Primer 55 has passed away. He was 40 years old. The news was passed on via family members posts on Facebook, as well as Metal Nexus. Jason came to fame as a member of Primer 55, one of the leading lights of the second wave of Nu-Metal bans in the late 1990s. The bands’ metal grooves along with Jason’s lyrical flow and true to life topics earned the band a wave of die-hard fans. From their underground album As Seen On TV, their 2000 major label debut Introduction to Mayhem, and 2001’s The New Release, the band toured relentlessly with bands like Slipknot, Machine Head, Biohazard, Dope, and performed on Ozzfest 2000. Jason had long battled addiction issues but was beloved by his family, friends, and fans until the end. Joshua Toomey, his former friend and former bandmate in Primer 55 as well as host of Talk Toomey: The Metal Nexus Podcast commented: “Jason was the voice of not only Primer 55, but as well as the voice of an era and a kind human being. He had his troubles and vices but in the end will be missed by all.” We send our condolences out to all whom Jason’s life and music help touch. Continue reading
