ALBUM REVIEW: Lindsay Schoolcraft – Martyr
Some good advice I received from my mentor in music criticism was to never underestimate or pigeonhole an artist. Cradle of Filth has made a twenty-five year career out of Black and Death Metal music supremacy, often covering the dark and all about that blasphemous life. Although she definitely has earned her place in that world as a member of that band, singer and multi-talented musician Lindsay Schoolcraft displays a wide array of gifts will not fit in a neat box for you to file and categorize. On her debut solo album Martyr (Self-Released), she satisfies her jones (and ours) for all types of Gothy Metal and Rock styles.
Nightwish Drummer Jukka Nevalainen Has Stepped Down From the Band
Nightwish drummer Jukka Nevalainen, who ceased to tour with the band five years ago has confirmed his permanent exit from the group. His replacement will be Kai Hahto, who has been playing with the band since the summer of 2014.Continue reading
Myrath – Shehili
Since their formation back in 2001, the prog-metal band heralding from Tunisia have made a name for themselves as being one of the most unique and interesting bands of their scene in the past few decades. Their unusual combination of folk and more melodic, symphonic metal is unlike most music out there. Will Shehili (earMUSIC)keep up the innovative flow left by their last album?Continue reading
CLASSIC ALBUMS REVISITED: X Japan – Blue Blood
Cast your mind back thirty years to the late 80s where hard rock was in full swing. Def Leppard in the UK at the peak of their career after the release of their seminal release Hysteria and over in the states, Guns N Roses were selling out stadiums across the globe. However, in the western world, there’s one band from that era that go somewhat underlooked compared to their peers: X Japan. On April 21st, 1989 the band released Blue Blood (originally titled, X) (CBS/Sony), the album that led them to become one of Japan’s biggest bands.Continue reading
Battle Beast – No More Hollywood Endings
Just a couple of songs into No More Hollywood Endings (Nuclear Blast), the new album by Finnish Power Metal act Battle Beast, and it’s already becoming evident that something is a little different this time. Not in a bad way; the songs are still hook-laden monsters that will take forever to leave your head, the musicianship is reliably outstanding, and singer Noora Louhimo‘s voice is still as strident and muscular as ever as she turns in one of her best performances to date.Continue reading

Beast In Black – From Hell With Love
Since leaving Battle Beast in rather acrimonious circumstances in 2015, Beast In Black guitarist and songwriter Anton Kabanen has done everything possible to challenge his former, more established bandmates, and with 2017s debut album Berserker (Nuclear Blast), he succeeded in no uncertain terms. With the two acts releasing stellar albums within a few months of each other, it would appear that Helsinki is definitely big enough for both bands, and that any bad blood that may remain between them is at least being channeled competitively into something creative and positive.Continue reading
