ALBUM REVIEW: Lord Sin – Confessions

Black metal is to thank for bringing the mystique back to music. This duo from Portugal cloaks themselves in black shrouds, we can assume they are not playing in, but instead of blast beats Lord Sin hits you with some creepy dirges on their sophomore album Confessions (Larvae Records). The graveyard stomp of the riffs allows darkness to possess their sound organically, rather than having to pull out all the Halloween decorations to convince the listener. Halfway into the first song, it’s easy to hear where they fall in the middle ground between doom and black metal. For a duo, they are cranking out a great deal of sound and care about writing songs, rather than just bashing out riffs.  Continue reading

Cavalera Books “Third World Trilogy” Headline Tour Dates with Necrot, and Dead Heat

Cavalera has become synonymous with extreme metal music, a name that to this day still holds the highest regard, a family legacy built upon decades of musical aggression. In 2023, Max and Iggor Cavalera achieved what some would say was an impossible feat; they revisited their earliest releases, Morbid Visions, and Bestial Devastation, and re-recorded them with bone-breaking intensity. A risk that few would dare to even attempt, yet they artfully and prolifically attained their trademark raw sound by means that could only be described as magic or time travel. Today, the band announce their “Third World Trilogy” U.S. Tour. The 30-trek will kick off on February 19th at Queen B in Cottonwood, Arizona and will make stops in Seattle, Brooklyn, and Orlando before concluding at the Van Buren in Phoenix on March 30th. Joining the tour are Oakland death metallers Necrot and California thrash/hardcore band Dead Heat.Continue reading
