FESTIVAL REVIEW: Riot Fest 2021: Live at Douglass Park

One of the titans of the North American summer Music Festival season is Riot Fest, and we were damn glad to see it come back strong in 2021. Especially after Lollapalooza did such bang up numbers coming back, and kept the safety methods strongto minimize the effects of the pandemic, you knew Riot Fest was going to go hard, and bring it big time. Even with the departures from the lineup of Nine Inch Nails, Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, and others, it was as stacked a lineup as the fest has ever had. If you’ve ever been to Riot Fest, Lollapalooza, Coachella or any other festival, you’ve witnessed the power of live music bringing people together. At Riot Fest 2021, we learned that even a global pandemic is no match for a community this passionate and devoted. What makes Riot Fest particularly special, though, is the integration of bands and artists from several generations, and the consequent mingling of their fans. Whether you’re twelve or sixty years old, there’s someone on the lineup for you.

Riot Fest 2021 Adds Patti Smith, Alkaline Trio, The Flaming Lips and More

Riot Fest has made the final weekend additions to the 2021 event, kicking off September 19th, 2021, which will be the fest’s first-ever Thursday Preview Party. Patti Smith and Her Band and Alkaline Trio will join Thursday night, with additional sets from Joyce Manor (performing their self-titled 2011 debut), WDRL, and Kristeen Young. As for Sunday, The Flaming Lips will return to Riot Fest on Sunday, bringing the fest-favorites back to Douglass Park on September 19 to replace Pixies. Sunday attendees will also get into the Thursday Preview Party for free, with a host of freshly-announced perks included. Tickets are on sale now at the link below.

Misfits to Perform All of “Walk Among Us” at Riot Fest 2022

“The Original Misfits” reunion of Danzig, Jerry Only, and Doyle has already announced they will perform at Aftershock Festival and now they will perform all of their classic Walk Among Us (Plan 9 Records) at Riot Fest 2022. Misfits will headline along with My Chemical Romance, already announced for 2022. tickets are on sale now for 2022 and this year’s Riot Fest features Nine Inch Nails, Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, DEVO, NOFX, Dinosaur Jr., Motion City Soundtrack, Smashing Pumpkins, Run the Jewels, Pixies, Circle Jerks, Coheed & Cambria, K.Flay, Meg Myers, Les Savy Fav, and many others to perform. My Chemical Romance has been announced as the first headliner for 2022 and tickets are on sale for both this year and next years’ fests at the link below. Riot Fest takes place every year at Douglass Park this fall (September 17–19) with a pair of announcements both for this year, and next year. In an unprecedented move, festival organizers are revealing the lineup for 2021, along with tickets for 2022. Watch Metallica, Korn, Heart, Mastodon, members of Soundgarden and More Pay Tribute to Alice in Chains Live at MoPop

Yesterday, Alice In Chains was awarded the prestigious Founders Award from Seattle’s Museum of Pop Culture (MoPop). They were celebrated for their 30-year career by a cadre of their friends and peers playing AIC covers from the Rock and Metal world such as Metallica, Korn, Mastodon, Slipknot’s Corey Taylor, and Fishbone, as well as members of Guns N’ Roses, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Jane’s Addiction, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Smashing Pumpkins, and others. Alice In Chains also performed their first show since the end of their tour cycle for 2018’s Rainier Fog album in 2019. The event was This year’s celebration was broadcast virtually on Amazon Music’s Twitch Channel watched by more than 275,000 people and raised over $600,000 USD. Alice In Chains is being honored by Seattle’s MoPop Museum of Pop Culture on December 1st, and the band will be celebrated by a cadre of their peers, as well as hold their first performance of 2020. Korn, Metallica, Mastodon, Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins, Dave Navarro of Jane’s Addiction, and Krist Novoselic of Nirvana are among the artists who will take part in virtual tribute performances when AIC is presented with this year’s Museum Of Pop Culture (MoPOP) Founders Award. Legendary alternative rock band Smashing Pumpkins previously announced their signing to Sumerian Records (Animals As Leaders, Black Veil Brides, Asking Alexandria) and their new album Cyr, on November 27th. Smashing Pumpkins have shared two new songs  “Cyr” and “The Colour of Love’ from their as yet unnamed new album, the upcoming follow-up to 2018’s  Shiny And Oh So Bright, Vol. 1 / LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun.  due later in 2020 via Sumerian Records. Their last album was Smashing Pumpkins’ first album in over 18 years to feature founding members Billy Corgan, Jimmy Chamberlin, and James Iha, along with longtime guitarist Jeff Schroeder. Smashing Pumpkins Book Intimate Venues for the Rock Invasion 2 Tour

The Smashing Pumpkins have booked a short headline tour of intimate rooms in North America for this spring. Rock Invasion 2 tour – a sequel to their iconic 1993 Tour that spanned the globe, will kick off on April 23rd in Louisville, KY and will end in Greensboro, NC on May 8th. Tickets for Rock Invasion 2 will go on sale to the general public starting Friday, March 6th at 10:00am local time and can be purchased at the links below. Produced by Live Nation, the Rock Invasion 2 Tour will bring the iconic rockers to intimate venues, featuring a heavier rock set of songs spanning the band’s entire catalog. The tour will feature Billy Corgan, Jimmy Chamberlin, James Iha, and Jeff Schroeder alongside bassist Jack Bates. In addition to the nine Rock Invasion 2 dates, The Smashing Pumpkins will headline two festivals – Beale Street Music Festival and Shaky Knees Music Festival – and after the tour concludes, will go on to open for Guns N’ Roses’ 2020 stadium tour for a number of dates in July.
