Season 2 of The Boys Features the Rolling Stones, Talking Heads, Goo Goo Dolls, U2, and Billy Joel

The anti-heroic Superhero series, The Boys, based on the popular comic created by Garth Ennis (Preacher, The Punisher)  and co-created, designed, and illustrated by Darick Robertson (Wolverine, HAPPY!) just saw the first three episodes released to Amazon Prime Video this week. As was the case in season one, the show is a blur of action sequences, bloody gore, cursing like a sailor, sand social commentary, and smart musical choices. Already heard in season two so far are The Rolling Stones (“Sympathy for the Devil”), Talking Heads (“Psycho Killer”, U2 (“Where the Streets Have No Name”, Goo Goo Dolls (“Iris”), and Billy Joel, who was one of the signature artists heard in season one (“Pressure”, “Piano Man”, “You’re Only Human”). Grave Digger – Heavy Metal Breakdown & Witch Hunter Reissues

1980. Gladbeck, Germany.

Two young musicians – singer Chris Boltendahl and guitarist Peter Masson – are trying to settle upon a name for their fledgling heavy metal band. The choices on offer are the perfectly reasonable Grave Digger, and the wonderfully inappropriate “Gas Chamber”. Hmmm…
Sensibly, if somewhat disappointingly, the pair decides to resist the temptation of siding with their wacky German sense of humour and go with the former…

Turbowolf – The Free Life

Turbowolf’s third album, The Free Life (So) is a whispy trippy nod to the beforetime. All I know is that I pulled out my lava lamp, put on some bell bottom trousers, dropped some acid, and flailed about the living room like I was at a Norman Greenbaum concert. The tracks have just enough psychedelic guitar sound to transport you back to the oh-so-colourful Sixties. Continue reading
