FESTIVAL REVIEW: Riot Fest 2017 – Douglas Park, Chicago

Nine Inch Nails at Riot Fest 2017, by Omar Cordy/OJC PICS

Riot Fest was started a few years back in the grand spirit of the old school one-off festivals of lore. It was intended to be special from the get-go and they have done a reasonable job of sandwiching themselves into a busy summer of Lollapalooza, Chicago Open Air, and many other destination festival shows. Having a mix of alternative rock, metal, Hip-Hop, indie rock, and more has helped carve out its own niche, and between special performances, varied food and beer options, late-night after parties, and basically the cool factor Chicago offers as one of the best cities in America, it’s no wonder fans flocked to the event from all over the world.Continue reading

Illinois pop-puk outfit Real Friends premiered their self-produced documentary called Moving Forward, “a documentary about growth, change and moving forward” here.

The 33 minute film captures personal interviews with each band member, live footage from Warped Tour and Europe, studio footage, and explores the foundation of the band and what drives them forward. Songwriter and bassist Kyle Fasel explains, “Making this documentary gave us a great opportunity to show our fans those inside details. It shows the growth of the band. It shows who we really are as people outside of playing music. And it gives our opinions on various things Real Friends related. We are very excited to show our fans this special thing.” Check out the trailer below.

The band features Dan Lambton (Vocals), Dave Knox (Guitar), Kyle Fasel (bass), Eric Haines (Guitar) and Brian Blake (drums). They are touring behind their latest release Maybe This Place Is The Same And We’re Just Changing, out via Fearless Records.
