Tool Reveals Message About Winter 2016 Tour Dates

Tool-Band-Picture

Tool has released a cryptic message on their website and Facebook account tonight, for the first time acknowledging a possible new headline tour of the USA this winter, a potential idea of the opening band(s) and perhaps the approaching new Tool album, all expected in 2016.

TOOL TOUR VISIONS

SOMETHING WICKED THIS… YOUR WAY COMES!

For those of you who only like NEWS about TOOL, here’s something that should be of great interest. The impenetrable veil of my dark scrying mirror FINALLY CLEARED today – enough so, in fact – that I could perceive a large heptagram on a complexly lit stage where four performers were dwarfed by dramatic video projections. Evidently the sonic and visual extravaganza that I was receiving is a rare glimpse of FUTURE TOOL U.S.A. TOUR DATES in the month of JANUARY, 2016 e.v. However, with some of the images in the depths of the black glass not being clearly distinct… YET, fans will have to keep checking back (SOON) on the Tool websites and Tool facebook page for an official announcement containing a list of the SHOW DATES, CITIES and VENUES, as well as for info about a tour support act(s). Regarding an opening band(s), what I was able to discern through the ever-shifting veil will in all likeliness be exciting to many Tool enthusiasts. STAY TUNED, FOLKS… as my trusty SCRYING MIRROR CONTINUES TO CLEAR…

Members of Tool have been evasive about future plans and tours until now. Recently enigmatic front man Maynard James Keenan gave a rare and wide ranging interview to the Phoenix New Times newspaper in which he offered no release date for a new Tool album.

On the whereabouts of the next Tool album.

“There’s nothing to say. I can’t.”

Tool recently headlined the first Monster Mash Music Festival in Tempe, Arizona on Halloween. To mark the special occasion of the show, the bands’ first performance in 17 months and their only performance of 2015, the band dressed as Led Zeppelin famously did in their 1976 concert film The Song Remains The Same (Swan Song/Atlantic). Opening their rendition of Led Zeppelin’s ‘No Quarter’, Tool played a career spanning set for over two-hours which included a new instrumental song, ‘Descending’. Maynard James Keenan is currently on tor with his other band Puscifer. Puscifer’s new album Money Shot (Puscifer Entertainment) is out now.

Puscifer – Money Shot

While most of the rock world is patiently awaiting the next Tool album, Maynard James Keenan has released yet another gem from his (sort of) solo project known as Puscifer. Money Shot (Puscifer Entertainment) is the third full length release from MJK and has quickly shot up the list of my favorite albums of the year. This record provided proportionate doses of both your typical instrumentals with a more percussive feel as well as the electronic, manufactured sound. Probably one of the most important elements outside of Maynard is the returning second vocalist, Carina Round. As Ghost Cult’s own Keith Chachkes said of Carina, “She is the yin to Maynard’s yang.” Money Shot only adds evidence to that claim as Round and Keenan once again make magic.

I always found it hard to pick out any favorite tracks when listening to new albums from any of Maynard’s projects and this album followed in the same fashion. Each song on Money Shot is truly one of a kind with their own personalities almost. Opening track, ‘Galileo’ , kicks off the record with a very spacey feeling song which is suiting of its title. This song is slightly more electronic then rock but still showcases both sides of Puscifer in an enjoyable five minute opener. ‘Simultaneous’ is half spoken word/story over crescendo instrumentals and then spills into lyrics. I found the story itself to be the best part of the song. The story is being told by a man who tried holding a conversation with someone else who was mostly too wrapped up in the music on their walkman. It is not until the batteries stop dying that this person finally starts giving his undivided attention to our narrator. At which point, the man grabs hold of the narrator and tells him that world peace cannot be obtained until three people simultaneously look each other in the eye. ‘The Remedy’ is another solid cut from this album and which really resonated with me both musically and lyrically. Instrumentally, the riffs in this song, especially in the second half, get my hair to stand straight up each time I listen. The lyrics take a big shot at people nowadays that have that entitlement feeling about themselves. Specifically, one passage of the song has Maynard mentioning that a person is speaking “like someone who has never been… smacked in the fucking mouth. That’s OK, we have the remedy.” I am sure many listeners can think of a time they had to deal with some snotty brat that thought they were better than you. Now if only we could deliver such a remedy to said asshole such as the one mentioned in this song.

From start to finish, Puscifer delivers money shot after money shot in the form of aural enjoyment. There is enough variation across the album that there really is something for everyone here. Keenan and Co can continue to be proud of their work after yet another successful release. So, instead of pounding away at your keyboard on social media bitching about the next Tool album, maybe you should hit up YouTube and try out Puscifer.

Tool Front man Maynard James Keenan gave a rare and wide ranging interview to the Phoenix New Times newspaper in which he offered no release date for a new Tool album, dismissed obsessive fans, and praised one of his other bands, Puscifer as more versatile outlet for his talents.

Excerpts::

On experimentation and Tool versus Puscifer comparisons

“I experiment with all these places I’ve been… I’m experimenting with grapes in Arizona, I mean, come on. Everything’s an experiment. But I feel Puscifer has more breadth . . . We can do animation, film, music, scores.”

On the role of comedy in his art:

“It’s weird. It shouldn’t be. I mean, this one’s named dick, this one’s named vagina. That’s the start there, okay?”

“Yeah, it’s there. But people miss it because they’re so focused on the other bullshit.”
“It’s lost. Insufferable people . . . It’s just ridiculous, retards. I’m sorry. Can’t help them. Way too serious. Too much. Lighten up.”

On playing Monster Mash Music Festival on Halloween, the only Tool show booked for 2015

“No, they (the other members of Tool) had to con me into it.”

On the whereabouts of the next Tool album.

“There’s nothing to say. I can’t.”

UPDATED- Festival Preview: Monster Mash Music Fest

Monster Mash fest Az Tool

(Editor’s Note: On 10/23 the Friday event for Monster Mash featuring Carlos Santana was canceled. More information here🙂

Prediction: Destination concert festivals will finally be the answer to European Open Air events  American fans have been drooling over ages. With new events cropping up left and right it is going to get tough for discerning fans to know where to spend their money. One new fest that has the star power and the location to draw lots of concertgoers is the Monster Mash Music Fest taking place Halloween weekend in Tempe Beach Park, at Tempe AZ. With a comfy autumn climate and beautiful vistas from the park, this is a spectacular place to see a concert. And what a concert Monster Mash promises to be with the one of a kind return of Tool, as well as other headliners such as Linkin Park, Rob Zombie, Primus, and Deftones.

Halloween Saturday at Monster Mash is stacked as Tool headlines the festival in their return to activity. Much speculation has been focused on the bands’ long delayed fifth album. Still, one can never underestimate what the band will pull out of their magic hat musically or visually in a live setting. It is sure to be a spectacle. Primus is aptly ranked in the direct support slot. Having wrapped up their Primus And The Chocolate Factory tour this fall, their Monster Mash set might be the last chance to see them for a while. Coheed and Cambria precedes them and is on tour supporting their new album The Color Before The Sun (300 Entertainment). Up and coming rockers Aeges and With Arms To The Sun round out the early Saturday lineup.

All Saints Day promises to be a devil of a time with a bevy of rock and metal bands led by a 1-2 punch of Linkin Park and Rob Zombie. Both acts put on tremendous visual shows live anhttp://www.monstermashaz.com/#!tickets/cq53d hit laden sets tailor made for festivals. Hot on their heels will be Deftones, who always put on an amazing show. The band transcended their early roots in the Nu Metal 90s to become a ground breaking avant-garde band all over the world. Pulling double duty this weekend will be Maynard James Keenan, performing again on Sunday with his art rock collective Puscifer. Puscifer’s new album Money Shot (Puscifer Music) drops coincidentally in time for the show. Playing in the daylight should be an experience for Ghost and their ritual sacrament of heavy psychedelic rock and evil imagery. Rockers Haletstorm will also be on the bill early this day.

Puscifer, the band led by Maynard James Keenan of A Perfect Circle and Tool has announced an new album today, dubbed Money Shot. The album will release on October 30th. You can hear the new Puscifer track in the form for the music video for the song ‘Grand Canyon’ at this link or below:

The video is directed by Adam Rothlin, and stars Keenan and Carina Round. Kennan who has described Puscifer in the past as an outlet for his “creative unconscious” commented on the creation of the Money Shot album:

“It’s extremely satisfying to witness simple conversations and ideas transform into completed sonic landscapes..: And to have these stories go above and beyond the initial ideas makes my grumpy heart swell three sizes.”

Puscifer’s line-up was originally intended to be formless, with musicians coming in when Keenan needed, but currently features Round, Mat Mitchell, Juliette Commagere, Devo Keenan (Maynard’s son), Tim Alexander, Jon Theodore, Jeff Friedl and Matt McJunkins among their ranks.

Maynard James Keenan Undergoes Hip Replacement

Enigmatic Tool , Puscifer, and A Perfect Circle front man Maynard James Keenan posted to the Puscifer Facebook today that he had undergone a complete right hip replacement, and it was a success.

Keenan in his post:

Didn’t want to freak anyone out, wanted to wait until out of the woods. Years of foot stomping left me with no cushion in my right hip. Full replacement yesterday. Walking today. 12 weeks, back on the mat to work towards that Brown Belt. OSS. #‎weshallovercome‬ #‎bjjforlife @teamvaghi @henrydynamixmma @chieflimao @carinaround

He offered no update on if his surgery will slow the work on the long-awaited new Tool album or the ongoing work on a new Puscifer album, begun earlier this year. Keenan, who holds the rank of purple belt in Brazillian Jujitsu, has been famously stealth-like about his personal life throughout his career. He has however, been a heavy user of social media since forming Puscifer, posting often on Twitter and Instagram from his Puscifer accounts.
