Toronto Thrashers Entropy released their new full-length album in August, Force Convergence and it’s full of shreddy guitars and anthemic bangers, and killer vocal hooks. Michael Alago Reads from His New Memoir in New York City


Music Industry legend Michael Alago, famous for signing Metallica and discovering White Zombie along with countless others, has released his highly anticipated memoir, I Am Michael Alago: Breathing Music, Signing Metallica, Beating Death via Backbeat Books. The book focuses on Michael’s early life, his experiences in the music industry, and his overcoming addictions and illness, to where he is today. Also the subject of the acclaimed Drew Stone documentary, Who The Fuck Is That Guy?: The Fabulous Journey of Michael Alago, the film about Michael’s life was just renewed on Netflix, and is now available to purchase and stream on Amazon Prime Video. On Friday (03/06/2020) in New York, Michael appeared at the Bowery Electric club and read from the book, autographed books and chatted up friends and fans. Borgo Pass and Keith Roth (Frankenstein 3000/Ozzy’s Boneyard on SiriusXM) performed unplugged sets before and after Michael spoke, respectively. CONCERT REVIEW: Heilung Live at Webster Hall


Have you ever attended a concert, and had a life-changing experience? I have had a few of those. I have been lucky in my so far to see a myriad of third-eye opening events like Miles Davis at Lincoln Center, Gorilla Biscuits at CBGBs (RIP), Rush at the height of their superpowers at Madison Square Garden, Joan Baez at a county fair, Overkill at Coney Island High (RIP), Tool before they were superstars, Frank Sinatra and Slayer in the same week, and the list goes on and on. CONCERT REVIEW: Tool – Killing Joke: Live at The Barclays Center


The massive Tool tour tolled into the New York City area in mid-November, and there were telltale signs this was not your typical happening. Sure, Tool is an “event” live and there really is no other show like it on earth. That is not an exaggeration. Take the best arena Rock or Metal show you’ve ever seen and ratchet it up to eleven! That is what we are talking about here. In addition to the power of the record-breaking release of Fear Inoculum (Tool Disectional, Volcano, RCA) we were going to get to hear new songs live, some for the first time ever. All the stress Tool fans felt about the wait for the album and how would it be received have all melted away. Time for this very big deal of a show. Continue reading


REVIEW: Soulfly – Unearth – Evergrey – Incite: Live at Le Poisson Rouge


Arriving at Le Poisson Rouge early in the for the combined Soulfly / Unearth / Evergrey team up tour date, we were pumped to see such an intimate venue host such a diverse night of music. We hung out early, interviewed a bunch of bands on the bill and generally got psyched for a night of different kinds of metal under one banner.

Deicide – Origin – Jungle Rot – The Absence: Live at Gramercy Theatre


Legions of fans gathered under the scorching sun to witness a concert only fit for the gates of hell. On June 1st, the Overtures of Blasphemy tour made its stop in New York City as fans descended to a sold out Gramercy Theatre to witness the brutality of Death Metal legends, Deicide. Supporting the bill were the Disciples of Destruction – Origin, Jungle Rot, and The Absence. They gave a performance that was both unforgiving and unforgettable.

Slayer – Lamb of God – Amon Amarth – Cannibal Corpse: Live at BB&T Pavilion


We were gathered at The BB&T Pavilion to pay respects to the life and times of the almighty Slayer. Joining us here in the congregation is Cannibal Corpse who showered us in hymns new such as ‘Red Before Black’ and old, like ‘Hammer Smashed Face’. A funeral pyre of from Amon Amarth which included ‘Twilight of the Thunder God’, ‘As Loke Falls’ as well as Raise Your Horns’. A fitting tribute.
