Former Guns N Roses Drummer Matt Sorum to Publish His Biography Next Spring

ADOPT THE ARTS founder Matt Sorum and ATA board member actor Johnathon Schaech at Westminster Elementary in Venice, CA.

According to a report from Blabbermouth.net, world-famous drummer and philanthropist Matt Sorum (Deadland Ritual, ex Guns N Roses, Velvet Revolver, ex The Cult), will release his first book “Double Talkin’ Jive: True Rock ‘N’ Roll Stories From The Drummer Of Guns N’ Roses, The Cult, And Velvet Revolver” via Chicago Review Press has set an April 7, 2020 release. The official book description reads as follows: “Cocaine smuggling, shoot-outs, and never-ending decadent parties: Matt Sorum’s ‘Double Talkin’ Jive’ could almost be described as the autobiographical equivalent of the film ‘Blow’. But rather than becoming premier drug smugglers, Matt Sorum becomes a world-famous drummer in Guns N’ Roses, Velvet Revolver, and The Cult. Sorum drops out of high school to become a drummer, but turns to selling pot to support himself, and later smuggling large quantities of cocaine. When Sorum is given the chance to play in The Cult, he is finally able to make a living as a drummer. The very next year Slash and Duff McKagan recruit Matt to join Guns N’ Roses, and with that, Matt’s life is transformed. When Axl Rose starts turning up at the recording studio more and more sporadically, sometimes not at all, Matt recounts in keen detail how he and the band stagger toward their downfall. Matt and his Guns N’ Roses bandmates Slash and Duff form Velvet Revolver with Dave Kushner and Scott Weiland. When Weiland suddenly leaves the band, Matt steps in as drummer for Motörhead during their U.S. tour, and then starts his own all-star band, Kings Of Chaos. During his time as a professional drummer, Matt battles alcohol and coke addictions, but meeting his girlfriend, Ace Harper, helps him manage to go clean. Matt Sorum’s autobiography, written with writer duo Leif Eriksson and Martin Svensson, avoids all the usual rock biography clichés.”Continue reading

Then Kravitz will join the tour in Foxboro, MA at Gillette Stadium on Jul 19th through the end of the tour. Guns N’ Roses have already performed two sold out shows at the new Las Vegas Arena to begin their storied comeback, two performances in Mexico City, and played Coachella. Guns N’ Roses’ are Axl Rose, Duff McKagan (bass), Slash (lead guitar), Dizzy Reed (keyboard), Richard Fortus (rhythm guitar), Frank Ferrer (drums), and Melissa Reese (keyboard). Alice In Chains are preparing a new album for later this year, while Lenny Kravitz is in the studio wrapping up music for a 2017 release.

Kravitz commented in an interview about the tour:

“I don’t normally do gigs like this. But sometimes you’ve got to do things for the fun of it, for the experience. I’m looking forward to playing with them and celebrating them coming back together.”

On Kravitz’ history with GNR: “I went to high school with Slash,” he says. “I’ve known Axl, Slash and Duff from the beginning. We all came up together, and we worked together. I wrote ‘Always on the Run’ with Slash and he played on ‘Fields of Joy,’ both on my Mama Said album.”

The last time Kravitz joined Guns N’ Roses onstage, the singer was one of a handful of special guests who came out during the band’s Paris concert in June 1992. “I remember that time very well because we were all staying at the Hôtel de Crillon, and we were all in Paris for a few days together,” Kravitz says. “It was a lot of fun.”

Lenny plans to play a mostly rock set as an opening act on this tour: “We’re definitely going to jam and improvise and get loose, and treat it like a festival. Summertime always makes me think of festivals like the Isle of Wight, when Miles Davis and Jimi Hendrix played. I love the summer, outdoor concert vibe, so we’ll rock out and improvise and go deep and get psychedelic and out there.”

“I haven’t seen Slash since the [Troubadour] gig, but I’ve texted with him,” Kravitz says. “I’m sure something fun and off-the-cuff is bound to happen.”

Vereecke comments:

I know they’re doing some recording. They’re definitely doing something there in the studio. Axl hasn’t been there, but Slash is definitely in there and it’s not for anyone else.”

Niven also corroborated that news:

Duff and Izzy were in the studio before Christmas doing stuff. At a casual glance I think they’ve got at least a couple of tracks down.”
