Metallica’s Kirk Hammett Gets “Out Wah-ed” in a Battle Live in Concert

Metallica lead guitarist and thrash legend Kirk Hammett has been dethroned as the king of Wah-Wah pedal! He was challenged by Mrs. Smith, the guitar virtuoso alter-ego of actor-musician David Hanbury, and defeated last night (Sunday, March 8) at the Senate in Columbia, South Carolina at the “Cry Baby Battle Royale”. The event also included a performance by Kirk’s The Wedding Band, a covers project, also featuring his Metallica bandmate Robert Trujillo and Ugly Kid Joe singer Whitfield Crane, Doc Coyle of Bad Wolves, among others. The seven-minute battle was introduced by Gibson’s Mark Agnesi, who arranged the event during an interview with Mrs. Smith, and saw Hammett and Mrs. Smith trading licks over a reimagining of Isaac Hayes’s Oscar-winning “Theme From Shaft”, the original recording of which became infamous for the mind-blowing wah-wah guitar of the late Charles “Skip” Pitts. Full disclosure: I’ve known about Metallica since they were a four-line advert in the back pages of physical rock magazines. My first year of high school Kie C. gave me a mixtape of No Life Til Leather and Kill ‘Em All in the band room. I. Was. Hooked. Master of Puppets was released and I played it non stop. I learned to play the entire album on my flute, by ear. My first Metallica show was in 1986 when they opened for Ozzy. I was front row. Kirk Hammett Completes Second Classical Music Piece

According to The Pulse Of Radio, Kirk Hammett, lead guitarist of Metallica has just finished composing his second classical music piece in conjunction with his wife Lani. Hammett revealed the news at Toronto’s Royal Ontario Museum on Tuesday (July 24), as part of an event launching “It’s Alive! Classic Horror and Sci-Fi Art From The Kirk Hammett Collection”, an exhibition of horror memorabilia from Hammett’s vast movie art collection. Dubbed “The Jinn”, the music was created to go along with the movie poster exhibition, which includes Hammett’s priceless collection of classic monster and Sci-fi movie art from “Dracula”, “Frankenstein”, “Barbarella”, “Bride Of Frankenstein”, “Creature From The Black Lagoon”, “Invasion Of The Saucer-Men”, “King Kong” and “Abbott And Costello Meet Frankenstein”.Continue reading →

Metallica continued their Worldwired tour last night in Ullevi in Gothenburg, Sweden. During their typical break in the show where Robert Trujillo and Kirk Hammett play their solo pieces and then jam together, they covered famous Swedish Punk band Ebba Grön’s ‘Staten Och Kapitalet’.
