Abyss Streaming “Prophecies Of Churning Horror”

abyss heretical anatomy

Ontario death metallers Abyss is streaming “Prophecies Of Churning Horror,” off their debut album Heretical Anatomy, out April 14, 2015 via 20 Buck Spin here.

Recorded and engineered by Chris Hegge at Audiolab, Toronto in the grip of Winter 2014, Joel Grind of Toxic Holocaust adds his touch to the production of Heretical Anatomy, mixing and mastering Abyss’s malformed death metal and the horror of its Lovecraftian persona. The frenzied blasting of early American and UK death metal and grindcore, before a distinct separation between the two existed, is a hallmark of Heretical Anatomy, yet the overwhelming speed scattered throughout the album’s duration is expertly applied, never descending into a one dimensional space where only velocity is the basis for existence. Songs are crafted with the care of the elder gods, rigorously refined with a seasoned sophistication, always maintaining a sharply primitive ferocity.

Poison Idea Streaming “Bog,” Upcoming Tour Dates

poison idea

Portland hardcore punk heroes Poison Idea is streaming “Bog”, off their upcoming album Confuse & Conquer, out April 7, 2015 via Southern Lord, here.

This is the first album since the passing of their former guitarist Tom “Pig Champion” Roberts, and 2006’s Latest Will and Testament. Eleven brand new anthems for the degenerate masses surge with thirty-five minutes of nonstop action on the new LP, its recording handled in their hometown by Joel Grind (Toxic Holocaust) and mastered by Brad Boatright (From Ashes Rise) at Audiosiege in late 2014. Confuse & Conquer‘s opening shredder, “Bog,” sets everything in its path ablaze with the nonstop energetic pummeling punk assault the band has infamously assaulted the planet with for three-and-a-half decades, proving that absolutely nothing can stop this legendary act and all attempts are a futile waste of time.

Toronto based death cult Abyss is streaming “The Atonement,” off their debut album Heretical Anatomy, out April 14, 2015 via 20 Buck Spin, here.

The second of eight grisly passages bound into the album erupts with a whirlwind of debilitating and utterly sadistic grinding, percussive, death metal and never relents, much like its seven counterparts, which collectively burn all modern metal trends to a sulfuric, insignificant dust.

Exploding with a tenebrous style of Stygian, grinding death metal, witnessed through two prior demos including The Reins Of Horror via Dark Descent Records, Heretical Anatomy documents the first fully realized glimpse into the dark surging Abyss. Hideous shapes and bloodthirsty rites of the Old Ones are viciously summoned upon the bones and bowels of the Earth, through eight odes to nameless terrors and protean revulsion mercilessly ripped from the flayed life of the cosmos and dripping with crimson adoration. Joel Grind of Toxic Holocaust adds his touch to the production, mixing and mastering this malformed death metal and the horror of its Lovecraftian persona.

Poison Idea Releasing Confuse and Conquer April 7th

poison idea

Poison Idea is releasing Confuse & Conquer, their first new album since 2006’s Latest Will and Testament, out April 7, 2015 via Southern Lord Recordings.

Soaking up respect from generations of hardcore punks and dishing none out, the dastardly denizens of mid-paced punk shred are in trademark form on Confuse & Conquer. With longstanding members Jerry A (vocals), Eric “The Vegetable” Olsen (guitar) and Chris “Spider” Carey (bass) alloyed by the fresh faces of Nathan “Skinny” Richardson (drums) and Brandon Bentley (guitar), POISON IDEA’s brand new full-length proves itself both identifiable and rewarding to listeners who have encountered them at any point from their 1980 birth onwards. Inventive beyond its steadfast roots, yet altogether as blunt as a stagediver’s knee hurtling towards your face, Confuse & Conquer sees the band wasting not a single second on non-music activities, riding high on this wave of creativity. Their forceful hardcore pummel is underwritten with dark humor, rage, disdain, and moments of real melancholy well beyond the usual remit of the genre, but it’s to be expected of Portland’s nihilistic champions, proudly unaligned with any other sound out there. They were there at the beginning and they’ll be there at the end, and in the meantime they have a lot more punk rock left to produce.

Confuse & Conquer was recorded in their hometown by Joel Grind (Toxic Holocaust) and mastered by Brad Boatright (From Ashes Rise) at Audiosiege over the closing few months of 2014, and will see release via Southern Lord on the 7th of April on CD, LP and digital formats. Additionally, expanded reissues of seminal POISON IDEA titles War All The Time, Feel The Darkness and more are also in the works for the coming years.

Southern Lord Recordings owner Greg Anderson issued on the signing and upcoming album, “I’ve been a rabid POISON IDEA fiend ever since seeing them decimate the legendary Gorilla Gardens in Seattle in 1985. Having the opportunity to work with this legendary band all these years later is an inexplicable honor.”

Formed in 1980, POISON IDEA became a household name in the hardcore/punk scenes early in their career, and are known as one of the most notoriously in-your-face acts in the American musical underworld, with an enraged, high-energy live set even more rambunctious than the massive roster of singles, EPs, full-length studio and live releases and more, across a realm of labels including Pusmort, Alchemy, American Leather, Bitzcore, Tim/Kerr, Taang!, Farewell, TKO, Southern Lord, Candlelight, and their own Fatal Erection. They’ve been an incredibly influential act to major performers including Nirvana, Pantera, Napalm Death, Machine Head, Eyehategod, Emperor, Turbonegro and an endless list of others.

Toxic Holocaust – From The Ashes Of Nuclear Destruction

Toxic HolocaustJoel Grind is a busy man. So busy in fact that it appears that he has so much material lying around that he feels compelled to release everything he ever recorded ever. It’s not so long ago that Grind released The Yellowgoat Sessions, another solo work where he bashed out eight tracks (bookended by two pointless and irrelevant atmospheric pieces) of muddily produced hyperspeed 80s metal worship that was, like most of his albums, crude and raw and felt like it was unfinished, or at best, rushed. And with a discography longer than the yellow line behind a stampede of diuretic camels, Continue reading
