Meaning “to rise up to attack” in Latin, the British Extreme Heavy Metal unit Adorior live up to their name by consistently presenting the crudest form of violent transgressions for decades, and still going strong. Continue reading

ALBUM REVIEW: Hyperdontia – Harvest of Malevolence
Genuine question here: how many folks listen to Death Metal strictly because of the vocals? Or let me rephrase, the growls and shrieks are the most important aspect to the listener? And no, this is not coming from the point of view of one of those “I like Heavy Metal, but not the screaming stuff” fans. Continue reading
ALBUM REVIEW: Engulfed – Unearthly Litanies of Despair
Death metal has always been a very hit-or-miss subgenre for me but most of it I do appreciate it. In good news, I have been listening to the new Engulfed album, Unearthly Litanies of Despair (Me Saco Un Ojo/Dark Descent Records), and it is certainly a hit and not a miss. Just shy of forty minutes, the four-piece from Turkey slams and shreds their way through your cranium. Just the right mixture of grimy OSDM and technical fretwork gives this album some replayability.Continue reading
ALBUM REVIEW: Spectral Voice – Sparagmos
Spectral Voice‘s sophomore album Sparagmos (Dark Descent Records) is possessed by a dark anguish that draws you in. A decade or so ago this brand of Atmospheric Death Metal was labeled “occult death metal” and referenced bands like Necros Christos who follow Incantation’s lead down into the doomier depth of death metal. ALBUM REVIEW: Undergang – De Syv Stadier Af Fordærv
Alright, all you sicko freaks – this rotting slab of stinking fetid metal is for you! Danish gore-hounds Undergang have been steadily churning out rotten meat since they formed back in 2008. Their latest offering, De Syv Stadier Af Fordærv (from the twin hit factories Me Saco Un Ojo / Dark Descent), has plenty more inhuman vocals, grinding rhythms and caveman riffs.
ALBUM REVIEW: Faceless Burial – At The Foothills Of Deliration
There are (at least) two ways to ascertain if metal is going to be technically inspired: the cover or the song titles.
In fact, with an album entitled At The Foothills Of Deliration, maybe it was obvious all along.
REVIEWS ROUND-UP: Through The Cracks Of Death: Altars – Hissing – Dead Void – Maul – Ferum – Castrator
Richard Benton watches with horror as the wounds knit, the flesh reforms, and the thing pulls itself with a sickening tear from its premature tomb.
ALBUM REVIEW: Blood Incantation – Hidden History of the Human Race
Chalk it up to me partaking more in the reefer these days and revisiting professional wrestling as a hobby again, but I feel like I took a chair shot to the back of the skull. Why am I feeling discombobulated? Have you tried listening to Blood Incantation‘s Hidden History of the Human Race (Dark Descent)? No? Then why don’t you go to your nearest highway and attempt to run across during rush hour traffic? Best of luck.Continue reading
