ALBUM REVIEW: Apocalyptica – Plays Metallica Vol 2.


Everybody loves covers! Especially covers of iconic songs by great bands. What is better than a single cover version of a classic track, but an entire album of them? What’s even better than that? Well, how about two albums of covers of a bunch of classics!

Yes, we’re talking about Apocalyptica, and we’re talking about Apocalyptica covering Metallica, which they did to great effect on their debut album twenty-five years ago! They have made a career of covering classics in Thrash Metal, introducing thrash fans to classical music on a new scale. while slowly creating their own repertoire of incredible original music, including a few hits along the way. What we often say about cover songs is that there are two approaches to take; a direct copy just redone beat for beat, or making those songs truly your own. Obviously and speaking of the classical metal masters of the Cello from Finland, we are talking reinterpretation. But they ratchet that up significantly on the sequel to their classic debut, Plays Metallica Vol 2., which is releasing via their own new imprint, Throwdown Entertainment. Continue reading →


Master Boot Record Books a European Tour for Next Fall


Italy-based electronic metal project Master Boot Record (MBR) will return to European stages in the fall for a full tour! Check the full routing below. Master Boot Record is helmed by technologist/producer/songwriter Victor Love (AKA Vittorio D’Amore). Founded in 2016, Love fuses heavy metal and synthesized electronic music to fabricate a sound that exists in a singular category of its own. The live shows see D’Amore taking the stage along with guitar virtuoso Edoardo Taddei on lead guitars and technical death metal drummer Giulio Galati and features stunning retro-visuals in a journey into demoscene, crack scene, and retrogaming. ALBUM REVIEW: Imminence – The Black


Arising from Trelleborg, Sweden, the ambitious quintet Imminence continues to reinvent Metalcore with their new album The Black. The group is known for breaking the genre’s boundaries with their use of violin and combining classical arrangements with breakdowns, blast beats and cataclysmic vocals. While Metal and Classical is one of the last combinations you would ever expect to hear, the band has always blurred the lines seamlessly between the styles. However, with this album, the Classical is more prominent than ever, while somehow making the Metal aspects hit an even deeper part of the soul for an almost spiritual experience.  Continue reading →
