Max Cavalera Hopes For New Killer Be Killed Album For 2016

killerbekilled_0

In an interview with Metal Hammer, Max Cavalera has reported that he expects another Killer Be Killed album to be released in 2016.

There’s another Killer Be Killed record coming next year, and more Cavalera Conspiracy stuff in the future. At this point I’m just letting it roll. Whatever happens will happen – that’s my attitude. I’m not forcing anything. If it happens, great; if not then it’s still okay.”

A bonafide supergroup, Killer Be Killed performed their first live dates as a band in Australia earlier this year, is comprised of Cavalera, Greg Puciato of The Dillinger Escape Plan, Troy Sanders of Mastodon, and drummer Dave Elitch (Antemasque/ex-The Mars Volta).

Hawk Eyes – Everything Is Fine

Hawk-Eyes-Everything-Is-Fine

Leeds’ alt.Rockers Hawk Eyes have successfully married US Discord Records style with off-beat prog melodies to good effect. Everything Is Fine (Pledge/Red Vole) is the sound of the band putting their best foot forward and maturing into a more versatile outfit striving to rise to the top of the Brit-rock pack.

The former Chickenhawk have mastered the blend of pop melodies without sacrificing the deliciously punchy nature of their songs. The driving melodies of nineties post-hardcore are injected with a shot of sludge and mathrock passion to great effect. Angular riffs underpin soaring harmonies which give the likes of ‘The Ambassador’ an urgency reminiscent of At The Drive-In.

The exhilarating rush of ‘Die Trying’ with its soaring chorus is another highlight, a deceptively addictive earworm which embeds itself in your cerebral cortex with its catchy lyrics full of righteous determination. The air of confidence the band has gained is never more evident that on the bruising ‘I Never Lose’, which rides an urgent riff and another great chorus.

In the four years since their Ideas (Vinyl Junkie) opus, Hawk Eyes dogged approach to touring has clearly benefited them, honing their craft through touring with rock journeymen such as Therapy?. Their duel vocals are used to great effect and while the maverick spirit of acts like The Melvins hovers over this it never threatens to extinguish the rabid pop nous of tracks like ‘The Ballad Of Michael McGlue’ which flies high on a rousing call and response chorus which declares “I don’t think God is gonna change his mind”.

Gleefully delivering agitated alt rock wrapped in easily swallowed bubblegum melodies Everything Is Fine is a stirring collection which warrants several visits, and the songs flow superbly from one riotous track to the next making this an intoxicating adrenaline rush which you will want to experience frequently.

“Happiness is a risky business” they spit on ‘Terribly Quelled’; it may be one they have to get used to if they continue to progress in such promising fashion.

unnamed (2)

Vermont based avant-garde prog metallers Barishi have been chosen as one of the national openers for 14 string guitar-wizard Felix Martin’s US tour. The run of dates lasting over a month kicks-off tonight in Los Angeles. Mixing equal parts At The Drive In, Tool and The Dillinger Escape Plan, the band has a refined sound and an explosive stage show that is not to be missed. Stinking Lizaveta and Dyse will also be performing on select dates. Check out their recent video for ‘Smoke From The Earth’ below:

Press Notes:

BARISHI recently released the Endless Howl EP, the follow-up to 2013’s acclaimed self-titled full-length. The band’s new effort is a brilliant mix of progressive metal dynamics and inventive hardcore harshness that is at once creative, melodic, and captivating. Antemasque – Antemasque

antemasque

Following the ending of The Mars Volta, it seemed the long time working relationship and friendship between Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez had sadly soured and it did seem that tensions were high and this dynamic duo was gone for good. Then, out of the blue arrived Antemasque, with both of them at the helm once again.

After the visceral post-hardcore of At The Drive-In and the explorative and unpredictable prog journeys of the The Mars Volta, Antemasque (Nadie Sound) sees them in new territory. This is a much more straightforward album than they have been accustomed to producing, part blues rock, part indie rock (think NME fodder) with shades of punk. Aside from Bixler-Zavala’s instantly recognisable voice this has little in common with their previous works, and even then this suitably lacks the vocal spite in At The Drive-In.

This is the most simplistic album of the duo’s career; song structures are a stock verse-chorus formula, only 3-4 minute average durations and focused on catchiness and tune rather than tangents and thought provoking routes. The indie vibes may put off many people especially those who discovered them from a progressive background, but otherwise this should make a great summer soundtrack, especially in a festival setting.
