Chuck Profus, legendary speed/thrash metal drummer & founding member of Agent Steel/Obscene Gesture passed away quietly at his Los Angeles home at the young age of 61 on June 4, 2025. Rob Hill, Producer/Engineer went across the street from the studio to check in on Chuck because he was concerned that he had not heard from him, only to find out he had passed away on the floor of his living room. The long-running great Black and Death Metal Festival Eindhoven Metal Meeting kicks off today at the legendary Effenaar venue in the Netherlands. Ghost Cult is honored to once again cover the fest, which we have supported for the majority of its history. Leading the stacked lineup this year are Katatonia, Carpathian Forest, Dark Funeral, Alfanhanne, and many more! As fitting for such an enigmatic entity, the sixth album from Speed Metal legends Agent Steel has been released under some rather bizarre circumstances. In addition to being the first album to feature their original vocalist John Cyriis since 1987’s Unstoppable Force, he also ends up being the only original member left in the band after the fallout of their last reunion. Subsequent live festival debacles and his eccentric responses to preemptive concerns regarding this album’s quality certainly haven’t helped matters, leaving fans to wonder whether it will be a return to form or an insane conundrum.
