Formed in 2008 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, Exhumation has spent nearly two decades building a strong presence in the Asian and international death metal scenes. Their 2012 debut, Hymn To Your God — which was initially self-released — gained significant worldwide attention, leading to an official release and a series of full-lengths and splits. Their latest album, 2024’s Master’s Personae, was praised by Metal Trenches as a “wild ride full of twisting and turning riffs as well as blistering solos,” while Mystification ‘Zine called it “one of the most compelling and convulsive death metal releases of this year.”

Oakland, California’s Funeral Chant has spent the last decade forging their own path in the death metal underground. Started in 2014 by drummer Cruel Force and guitarist Doom of Old, the band intentionally avoids polished production and current trends in favor of the raw, chaotic energy of bands like Vorum, Degial, Obliteration, and cult legend Necrovore. Their consistent live performances since 2016 have earned them a dedicated local following and recognition from Bay Area icons like Necrot, Dispirit, and Ludicra, with additional gigs from Canada to Mexico to the Eastern U.S., spreading their message of chaos and death.

Exhumation’s part of the split was recorded at Watchtower Studio in Yogyakarta, with lead guitars tracked by D. Miasma at Studio Black Mark in Scotland, and bass recorded at Castle Nightbeast II in Ohio’s Cuyahoga River Valley. Funeral Chant’s tracks were recorded at Forbidden Chambers, engineered and mixed by Justin Divverand. Both sides were mastered by James Plotkin.
