Metal is allowed to be fun, especially when three heavyweights collide in a tri-split that not only features original songs from each, but unlikely cover tracks which allow for displays of versatility.
Fit For An Autopsy, Thy Art Is Murder and Malevolence drop a certified bunker buster in the form of The Aggression Sessions (Nuclear Blast), an aptly named cavalcade of crushing music and debilitating production. Six songs in length, each band is given room for a new track and their own rendition of classics.
The release – which takes only 24 minutes to consume – effectively alternates the track listing which works to keep the proceedings fresh. New Jersey-based deathcore purveyors Fit For An Autopsy bull rush on ‘Hellions,’ which combines with tectonic screams resembles an M1 Abrams tank plummeting down a cliff. They follow that up with a bruising rendition of At The Gates’s classic trailblazer ‘Under A Serpent Sun’.
Thy Art Is Murder, Australia’s deathcore behemoths, answer the call with ‘Until There Is No Longer,’ a polished and stout banger amplified by thick, downtrodden guitar tuning. And excitedly enough, they then opt to pay homage to Cannibal Corpse with a visceral cover of ‘Hammer Smashed Face.’ C.J. McMahon hits the nail on the head replicating the Barnesian grunts.
Heavy metallers Malevolence round out The Aggression Sessions, and they do not disappoint. ‘Waste Of Myself’ struggles to contain its chaotic rhythmic section, and Alex Taylor’s full-throated bellowing pushes the intensity up to 11. As for their cover, the English group select Anastacia’s ‘Left Outside Alone,’ and is unsurprisingly authoritative and demonstrative, as is Malevolence’s prerogative.

By now it should be abundantly clear why The Aggression Sessions is infinitely worth the sub-thirty minutes. It’s heavy and herculean while also revitalizing and reverberating. Because at the end of the day, there is no reason why aggression can’t also be super fucking exciting, too.
